What cpu will slay with this?

Please recommend me an intel CPU that’ll stomp when paired with these components…

Board - Asrock Z490 Extreme4 (LGA 1200)
Ram - 32GB Teamgroup DDR4 3200
GPU - RX 6700 XT
1080p atm, may move to 1440 at some point.

What’s a great choice for this?

400-series chipset will take a 10th or 11th gen Core processor. That would make the flagship CPU the i9 11900K(F), though you’ll get much better efficiency (and only slightly less performance) from an i9 11900(F) if that’s at all consequential to you. The i7 11700(F) may also be worth considering depending on price, but could be between 5% and 10% lower in performance depending on usage.

Though do be mindful as the Z490 was shipped originally for the 10th gen, so it may need a BIOS update to use an 11th gen.

Anyone else appreciate the bizarre naming scheme Intel uses, in that their “11th generation” Core processors are actually the 13th generation to use the name?

depends if you need a CPU to update the BIOS in that mobo to accept the rocket lake (11 series) CPUs

if you need an update just go with a i5-10600k, if you don’t go with the “newer” i5-11600k.

you can do 4.8/4.9 across all cores to “slay” any game but the reality is at 1440 your video card will hold you back in a graphically maxed out WoW more than your CPU. Regardless either CPU with that video card will run any game out there easy at 1080p and handle most with good settings at 1440p.

Adding more cores won’t give you any real world benefit in WoW

Best bet would be i9-11900k or 10900 or 10850k however unless you can find a great price on those CPUs used you might be better off switching to a cheap b660 or z690 motherboard and getting a mid tier 12th or 13 gen i5 it should outperform the older i9s in single core performance which should give you better performance in WoW.

Swap out that motherboard for a b550 and get the 5800x3D and call it a day. CPU intensive games like wow thrive on V cache. Would be your best bang for your buck too.

Didn’t see that one coming…

Im doing an upgrade myself. A complete platform upgrade.

Snagged a Ryzen 9 7900x and a Zotac RTX 4080 for $1400 flat for both on Facebook Marketplace. Local pickup. Both brand new sealed in boxes. Was such a good deal I couldn’t resist. Its also a decent upgrade from my 5900x and RTX 3080.

Figure I could make that money back selling both my 3080 and 5900x with RoG Dark Hero mobo :woman_shrugging:
