Hi all just curious what counters a warrior in a 1v1 setting meaning no pocket heals/dispels
Almost every class does depending on gear, besides maybe a rogue?
anything with a range, since they can’t charge in combat
i guess some warlocks might struggle with wariors who are capable of using berzerker rage, but frost mages, hunters and shadow priests should be fine
Mage. Hunter. Shaman. Paladin. Warlock. Shadow Priest.
frost mage is the only true hard-counter in a 1v1 duel… i guess second closest would be a rogue with all cooldowns, paladin with lay on hands, or a good hunter
fury warrior will poop on a shadow priest when both are fully geared out at 60
This is off topic but… people keep saying shadow priests are good in PVP in vanilla, how? I am honestly asking,
Everything when the Warrior is solo.
Nothing when youre in a good group with powerful heals.
Shammy’s can counter better then a rogue, due to frost shock kitting also Rogues have to be in meele range unless they’re bleed kitting. Again though a lot of this depends on your gear.
Frost mage. That’s it.
Spriest and lock have a slight chance against a warrior, but even then- zerker rage.
Hunters don’t- in Vanilla they had a deadzone where they can’t do anything, and it’s very easy to keep them in that area. Also, hunters didn’t have disengage- the moment you get to them, it’s over.
Basically if you’re 1v1 as a warrior, nothing can beat you except a frost mage though. When you have a healer- then the most a frost mage can do is slow you down.
There’s a reason Vanilla was referred to as ‘World of Warriorcraft’. They were the only tanks in raiding, and they were the best in pvp.
Shadow Priests are little gods in 1v1.
they deal a lot of damage and have a lot of defense (inner fire gives them a lot of armor and shadow form reduces physical damage by 15%)
they also have a good deal of CC with Silence and psychic scream, and mind flay is pretty much a perma slow. if i’m not mistaken one of their talents gives a 10% stun chance on all shadow damage abilities
shadow priests are only bad in raids because they run out of mana, which isn’t much of an issue in quick PVP fights
how? All the videos I’ve watched on classic class guides say that almost nobody plays shadow cause it’s useless and almost no raids will let you in
as i said, they’re bad in raids due to running out of mana mid-fight; but raiding isn’t PVP
Mage, Hunter, Pally, Shaman & Facemelter. Any class that can kite and slow. Frost Mage are a Hard counter to Warriors as even if you get a charge off they will still escape.
In a 1v1 almost everything counters a warrior. In group pvp almost nothing counters a warrior.
In my experience with a 1v1 situation: UD Warriors hard counter Warlocks, it’s 50/50 with shadow priests(level > gear => skill). Orcs hard counter rogues, pallies are 50/50 because of the healing but the orc can sometimes burst through with blood rage basically depends on player skill and the pallies use of LoH. Humans hard counter stealth, a good mage hard counters everything. Druids can kite warriors around pretty easy, as can hunters.
I’m not sure about troll, gnome, or dwarf as I never played any of them above level 30 in vanilla.
Hunters and Mages especially. They can kite you to death.
For the person asking about shadow priests.
As for Warriors there are more variables than just class vs. class. Gear and knowledge of the other classes as well as being skilled yourself is a big factor in playing Arms 1v1. Does the Warrior have Engineering? Do they have certain specific weapons like Bone Reaver’s Edge?
Warriors have a very high skill ceiling in 1v1 PVP. Technically possible for a very geared Warrior with Engineering to beat everyone 1v1. Most will be nowhere this skill level though.
Everything but rogue. Against a frost mage or hunter, you might not ever get a single point of damage on their health bar.
There were many classes/specs that blew in pvp but were great in raids, and vice versa.
Like, going enhance shammy or arms warrior or spriest you’d be top dog in pvp- but in raids, you’d be pretty much unwelcome.
For most classes, there was basically a single spec that you could raid as- and you’d be very lucky if your raid lead let you do something else.
Pally, Shammy, Priest, Druid- healer spec
Warrior- tank spec (fury did good damage, but had no threat drop- however, as the game is 1.12 for classic, threat was easier for tanks so fury should be fine)
Hunter- MM
Mage- Frost (MC, BWL, Ony), Fire (the rest)
Lock- ? (honestly can’t recall)
Rogue- combat or assassin were good iirc
Generally speaking- you had warrior tanks, maybe a druid later on since their hp/armour got rediculous eventually. If you could heal, you had to heal.
