What class or more specific spec, countered Rogues in Vanilla.
I'm asking because I was thinking of going Feral Druid just for leveling and am sure I'll run into a few rouges while questing so how well do Ferals hold up against Rogues or what class/spec counters them.
Any info appreciate
Warrior.
Don't think I've ever lost to a rogue in years of playing private servers as a hunter. Druid should also be a very easy win vs rogue.
Rogues are overrated by most players, and if you are half geared and remotely decent you'll always have a better than not chance of beating a run of the mill rogue.

playing a rogue better than the other rogue.

A good frost/elemental mage.

warlocks' see invisible spell?
Didn't work. They did have Felhunter paranoia, but a rogue could counter that with a pre-vanish in stealth, or could just approach from behind.10/31/2018 08:26 PMPosted by Skarmwarlocks' see invisible spell?

Detect invisibility did not help at all with detecting stealth.
Feral druid does well against rogue. Just make sure you don't get opened on in cat form and stunlocked; if you can make it into bear form, you're pretty likely to win.
Dwarf hunter is probably the hardest counter to rogues. An ele shaman in pre-nerf Invulnerable Mail can't lose to a rogue unless they're afk, but that relies on the pre-nerf version being in the game (and the nerf had occurred by 1.12).

RECK BOMB PALADIN

Any class that catches a rogue out of steath has the upper hand.
warrior. spam overpower
Reck bomb paladin
Dwarf Hunter and Reck Bomb Paladin are pretty much two of the hardest rogue counters in Vanilla.
Reck Bomb Paladin being a specific style talents that relies going fairly deep into prot spec to get reckoning. Basically spam sit when rogue on you and lower energy for those sweet crits... then right click. Dead rogue.
Dwarf for hunter due to the poison and bleed drop and hunter overall will counter them pretty hard but the dwarf is a major plus.

Underrated answer.... As a rogue you basically have opposing team rogues as one of your highest kill priorities because you have bleeds, stuns, and they're among the squishiest of your targets armor wise. Rogues can routinely 100-0 each other from the opener.

Only works on Succubus in vanilla era, and as a dispell protection (buff each rank of it and underwater breathing for max protection for your demon armor).
@ the OP, it depends on player levels and gear levels involved..
During the leveling process, Rogues are one of the stronger PvP classes.
At 60, Rogues have a massive gear advantage from weapon itemization/ease of acquistion in the early raid tiers that can give them a quick leg up... and are heavily cooldown based so they don't need a ton of armor. Furthermore, they have a ton of control which can result in a binary check of whether or not you can survive the rushdown.
THAT BEING SAID.... Once you hit AQ40+ Gear levels... Rogues go from one of the strongest classes to one of the weakest. They simply don't gain as much during that time period as the rest of the classes....
Casters in particular SKYROCKET in +Spellpower/Crit levels by the time BWL is on farm and (especially with luck getting ZHC or ToEP) are going to be globaling people left and right from range.
Warriors also get pretty nutty around this time period, as most of them will have a Rag weapon (bone reaver/ Skullforge Reaver/ Hand of Rag) or an Ashkandi/Untamed Blade, as well as a raid level shield/1h.... Lifegiving Gem is also a pretty massive tool for PvP warriors, particularly in duels from BWL.
Hunters get one of their Best weapons from BWL
Enhance Shaman and Ret (for melee) need their AQ40 sets or the rank pvp sets... but both should have weapons by this time.
Ele gets spell penetration gear in AQ40, but outside of that is ready to go by BWL+ levels.
Basically everyone is taking these gigantic leaps in power, except rogues. So you're going to end up losing a duel series against the following by AQ40 gear:
Mage
Hunter
Feral
Warlock (soul link)
Warrior
Paladin
Boomy (I THINK*)
You might trade games against:
Warlock (SM/Ruin)
Shadow (depends on their luck with blackout procs)
Ele (this is a nightmare matchup for both of you...)
Enhance (depends on their shield/1h or luck)
Warlock (DS/SM)
Warrior, druid, paladin, demon lock. can beat a rogue 1v1 most of the time. its a battle of time. Rogues put on the hurt but cant take it. if you can last though the pain rogue will drop.

Aren't there mobs in Dire Maul that are invisible? I recall people complaining about Warlocks basically being required for Dire Maul runs because of Detect Invisibility.

Invis and stealth are two different things.
Lock pet grants imp stealth detection range.
The spell means you can see invis mobs.
