What community means and why there can not be a changing of the guard

A lot of us here on Grobb have been around for awhile in our respective communities. Hell, I’ve been on ED since day one. Servers like ED and WrA worked extremely hard to build their communities and keep them alive in the face of Blizzard essentially trying to destroy their own game. They removed the community out of WoW, but ED and WrA refused to let it get them down.

Grobb is made up of a lot of the ED and WrA communities. I’ve seen what great things these two servers can accomplish in the face of Blizzard jumping ship. We’ve persevered.

This mentality of fighting for the community is equally strong here on Grobb. This is mainly due to the fact that a lot the server is made up of old veterans of the fight. There are a lot of tourists as well, and I’m ok with that, but in the end it’s us that control our destiny.

Blizzard splitting the community in two so suddenly (DD - I mean c’mon, imagine not playing on Grobb) hurts. By the time WrA came about there wasn’t so much a concern for splitting the RP-PVP ruleset communities in two because one server had been established for so long. This time it’s a bit different. As if that wasn’t enough to have to deal with, we also have some server usurpers in our midst.

We all saw the community come together in late August. Within 20 minutes of the Final Boss post going up on the Reddit it was already making the rounds and the community banded together to keep it all in check. I’m asking, again, for this sense of unity. The Discords mean very little. In fact, I hate the idea and wish they’d all be shut down so we’re forced to use the realm forums. That being said, there are forces on the big Grobb Discord that think they run this server. They’re outsiders. They weren’t EDrs or WrA members. I have a ton of screenshots of discussions where they act like they are the arbiters of justice on Grobb. I understand that it’s just on Discord and it’s separate from what goes on in-game, but their weird authoritarian attitude is starting to leak in-game and it’s dividing the community.

I don’t know who these nerds are, but they don’t run Grobb. The people sitting in that silly Discord all think they do, but its us that run the show. We need to keep it that way because we’ve proven over a decade and a half that we’re capable. If we hand over the reigns now and ignore this, this server will be unrecognizable.

We need to keep gaining control of the community in the face of these pretenders running Discords and subreddits.

There was a surefire breach of conflict of interest with FB basically running the Discord. Since they stepped down, a new guild has entered the leadership position and are giving their friends positions in the community. These people are pretenders. Disavow these nerds with every fiber of your being.

They are trying to socially engineer the trajectory of this server.

Sadly, the other Discord option for Grobb is a tirefire as well so our options for communicating outside of in-game are few. I’m fine with that. It’s harmless normie stuff. Whatever.

I KNOW this sounds stupid and petty. I would agree with you wholeheartedly. It’s almost embarrassing having to make this post, but the health of this server is in constant flux right now. What happens now could change Grobb negatively in the future. We nip this in the bud now, or we watch our community get taken away from us by pillagers.

So, are they PvPbros?

So this is what ED drama looks like in action.

I don’t have this discord thing that seems to be all the rage these days.

Ostrich life is nice.

We’ll be good. Also, DD people will come back eventually

I’m building that wall you always dreamed of.

I’m not calling for a witch hunt but I will say as an old member of ED that some of the things going either unchecked or just being passed off as “It will fix itself” are kind of silly IMO.

The, what seems like an overwhelming amount sometimes, groups of people who don’t want to comply with RP and just wanna go around being pricks will eventually be moved out by either Blizz or us.

It’s more the types that are like “no we’re roleplayers lmao, we’re here to help why are you being mean?” that concern me because many can be charismatic and unfortunately get a lot of easily swayed people behind their banner.

I wish Blizzard would do more to protect RP realms, but ultimately it would be a pretty impossible task to police RP.

If there was actual documented proof of a pattern within a guild or of a player showing an intent to disrupt RP though, they should ban such people from RP servers. Unfortunately, the only instance I’ve ever seen of something like this was an ERP guild long ago being disbanded and banned by Blizzard.

Maybe if they physically move the Grobbulus server to the Chicago data center. The more I play, the more I value the lower ping.

I honestly don’t understand the issue with ping. I’m seriously not trying to be offensive, but I’m on the east coast and connect to Grob with 22 ping. Is this an ISP problem?

Call me crazy but I would kind of like to see a corrupt leadership try to take control of the server and then us peasants rise up and take it back.

Your ping is faster than the speed of light. Not all of us have ISPs that good.

East Coaster here; haven’t noticed a difference in playability between the two servers. 20-30ms is not the reason you’re dying.

I miss having ping like that. I live in Japan and I’m typically hovering around 120.

Hey man you could just not partake in a discord circle jerk server perhaps?

I always felt that was the feeling The Crew and to a larger extent WSB did on Emerald Dream. I’m not sure the whole story of WSB or the drama but I knew when their Zergs attacked an Alliance city it was a server wide call to arms to defeat them.

But these Final Boss guys just sound like some creep wannabe’s. Let them (try) control the AH but ED, WrA folks are some the craziest and fiercest community advocates I’ve ever seen in any MMO. They’ve got my support 100%.

Not to mention we (ED) were considered the premier WPvP server in its hey-day and it sounds like a lot of the folks who were a part of that have come here to recreate that amazing atmosphere. That was in a time when everyone shouted WPvP was dead.

Being on ED from the start, it was the community (not expansions or content) that kept me there and playing WoW in general.

P.S. I left before WrA picked up in popularity but if what I’ve heard is the truth then having both those communities together… my god… I’m more worried about how much time I’m going to lose immersing myself in this merged community than some random pserver guild. It’s always fun when the off server guilds xfer to us, think we can’t PvP, then get smacked so hard they re-guild transfer/disband.

Not really. Grob has excess population, while still using layering. We need to shed population before phase 2. As long as the RP to non-RP ratio of migrants to DD isn’t higher than the Grob ratio, our demographics will be fine.

Grob doesn’t belong to EDers or WrA members. There were vibrant communities on other RP-PvP servers who can rightly claim a piece of Grob. Moon Guardians? Not so much but I am willing to lease on the Lion’s Pride Inn to them to do as they see fit.

As for who can mete out justice on Grob, I think most people in the RP-PvP community will properly defer to my infinite wisdom.

Rabble rousers on crooked discords should be identified and reprogrammed.

I will assign Inquisitors Beckett and Vedmo to investigate these malcontents.

This is a huge talking point that warrents its own topic and is having a hugely negative effect of community building

Hypothetical scenario:

RP focused Player logs on Grobbulus and gets put on Grob layer [7]

There is a chance that day or hour, layer [7] has less RP commited players on it

Player is questing through Stonetalon on layer [7] lonely and trying to ignore general

But at that same exact moment and place on the map on layer [3] is a 4 man RP guild group doing quests together who would love to have 1 more join the party or eventually their guild ranks

The Player will never know they were there, never have that oppurtunity of chance encounter that could completely change his Grobb experience

How many individuals have had their experience on the supposedly “singular” realm of Grob been ruined by chance. Im sure this happens quite often with the amount of layers ive heard exixt in the Grob multiverse

This is essentially crossrealm within a realm.

The only possible solution is to ask the player to alt-tab, go on forums or discord and shoot fish in a barrell choosing a guild

No promotion of in game interaction and engaging your enviroment. Quite the opposite.

Im not sure what the concern is. The vast majority of people on Grobb do not participate in the realm outside of in game, i.e. they ignore sub reddits, discords, etc.

This. Those of us that come here, reddit, disc, etc are more like members of a hidden cult to the rest of the crowd.
