It’s fundamentally the one class where its resources are at odds with one another.
One of the few classes that really don’t bring anything to the table.
Very outdated in terms of modern design.
Frost and unholy always hit like a wet noodle outside of cooldowns because they are so cooldown dependent.
BoS is an outdated mechanic and a lot of the community doesn’t like it. Shadow priest with void form in legion and bfa proved that doesn’t work in today’s world.
So many other things I could list, but yeah dk needs a rework super badly.
While I have a lot of love for UH, I do think it’s a messy spec. It just feels like it wants two different things at once. It wants me to burst sores, but I’m already full on RP. I try and burn through the RP, but I’ve got all these SD procs and now the sores are capped on the mobs.
But of course the main spec I think needs a rework is survival. Or more specifically, survival and BM. I think BM works really well, and has a neat little rotation built into it. I just think it should have been the melee spec. Take the same mechanics, but build them into melee attacks. The bleeds and animal kinship just fits better with a savage melee character. Survival on the other hand, should be ranged. They clearly want it to be. And it should be a hunter who defeats their prey with all manner of high tech gadgets and gizmos. You know - bombs, guns, traps, explosive shots, camo. The kind of stuff you think of in a modern hunter.
Two things
One, when I said don’t bring anything to the table I meant something no other class can do and that something is strong. Like amz isn’t great anymore, plus disc has dome. Mass grip can be great, but in most environments grip either doesn’t work or not a big deal to use.
Two, other specs have brez and those other specs/class are more useful.
I think Warrior gameplay is fun, but they feel so weak in utility. I was also messing around on prot warrior this week and there seems to be periodic weird downtimes where you can’t really push anything which I don’t experience with the other tanks. I’m by no means a prot war master, and it wasn’t ALL the time, but it happened enough to be noticeable.
I think unholy needs a rework. The last time I played it, the spec had like 8 different CDs on random timers. I haven’t played Frost in a long time, so I can’t comment. Blood used to be the most fun tank in the game for a long time. I don’t know what I would do with it.
The specs I think need the most love: arms, fury, ele sham, WW and survival.
dont bring anything to the table besides completly farm/counter any caster in the game generally with ease? versus melee sure dk bring nothin really besides grip peels and chains imo rework tanks make them utlity how aug is more a role rework rather than class/spec but just imo
Frost just has nothing going for it, they killed unholys damage entirely with its “rework” and blood has had the same problem for several xpacs now
I like being the tank based on healing, but maybe my talents should actually be useful instead of like blood drinking healing a whole 90k damage, so like less than 1/5th of what a single death strike would do and won’t give a damage shield as well
Truth be told I think specs were a mistake. They have so many they can never balance them. They should have had just the basic class then add more classes.
For example, if you took bits of Unholy DK and Affliction Warlock you could add some new spells to it and have a Necromancer. Balance Druid and Elemental Shaman could have been an Elementalist. Fury Warrior and Outlaw Rogue could have been a Barbarian. Etc.
You’d end up with less classes overall than we currently have classes/specs and it’d be easier to balance. Each class would have a firm identity instead of the hodge podge they are now.
You’re going to have a lot of people say this is stupid, but I don’t believe this is wrong.
It’s a beast of Blizzard’s own making that sounded fine when the number of classes were smaller and Blizzard made the conscious decision to only have 1 functioning spec per class.
But now that it treats every spec like it’s own class and tries to balance them accordingly. Oof.
And it makes it harder to add new classes. They had to destroy Demonology Warlock and completely remake it totally different to use its abilities to make Demon Hunters.
I think DKs, Warriors, and Shamans are in the most need.
There are specs, class trees, etc of most of the other classes that need work, but those 3 are in the most need.
Mages - Fine
Warlocks - Aff needs work badly, get rid of MG and go back to the Legion model. The spec is still built around UA being the spender but doesn’t have it anymore.
Priest - Shadow needs more damage shifted back to dots and spirits, and make their Shadow Crash instant around a target. Think Void Full Moon that applies dots.
DH - Fine
Rogue - Fine
Druid - Class tree needs work, all specs but resto need some work and seem to only compete if propped up by set bonuses.
Monk - WW needs work
Hunter - Marks and Surv could use tweaking. BM basically works.
Shaman - NEEDS RAID BUFF, or each spec needs their own version of WF totem. Enh feels great with S3 bonus. Without it, all 3 specs need work.
Evoker - I’m sure this needs work, but I don’t know how.
Warrior - Give them utility for M+, they’d feel alot better then. What they have is too little compared to others.
Pally - Holy got nerefed too hard. Ret needs to scale better with haste/mastery again. Prot is fine.
DK - NEEDS RAID BUFF. All 3 specs need work.
Is none ever the right answer? I’ve played all the specs in this game and I can tell you enough times the “rework” ends up playing worse than the original.
First thing that comes to mind is shadow priest and how they removed mind sear. Enough is enough just STOP changing specs it’s not fun for anyone!
