Silly but I think it might be pretty fun.

  1. This game is already generic. It simply features outdated mechanics. It wouldn’t become any less generic by getting rid of something that is common in MMORPGs from a decade ago. That didn’t make this game unique, ever. Korean MMORPGs have been gender locking and race locking classes since the early 00’s. Better to be modern and generic, with more choices and options, than archaic and still generic.

  2. Again, if those prejudices actually had any impact on the game, rather than a wiki entry or a book, it would matter. But it doesn’t.

Also, with the Burning Legion being such a threat, we still allow Warlocks in the Alliance and Horde. So that whole, some races hate certain classes is moot. Since when is my character, my entire race? The things I do during the game, many times run counter to what my class or race should strive for.

I have a druid doing quests for a big game hunter, or deforestation efforts. Tauren are teamed up with undead who blight the land. Every paladin would have lost their powers by now do to doing things that would be classified as pure evil. Simply because the story requires it.

This isn’t about lore anymore. It’s about withholding something so it can be introduced as “new content” later. “Hey look everyone we listened to you and you’re getting X class for X race!” I mean the exact same excuses have been used since Vanilla. Remember when people said Pandas would never happen? We have Paladin for Tauren. And all it took was saying “oh yeah, the Sun is vaguely holy”.

It takes one twist of logic and any class can be any race.

  1. Our characters are supposed to be unique. We are The Champion.

People have been showing up to these boards declaring Blizzard’s current vision as absolute, only to be contradicted by Blizzard a year later. For almost 15 years! When will some of you get it? The lore excuses are meaningless, because said lore can change in a heartbeat.

If tauren can use the sun to fuel the faith of their paladins, why can’t night elves use the moon?

The lore is arbitrary.

For the cause!

Was wondering when I’d see a DID request.

You should look up some fan mockups. Neat stuff.

At the very least Blizzard has shown that they can stretch the concept of a class to fit a narrative to make it possible.

I dislike saying the lore is arbitrary when in fact Blizzard has come up with some interesting and impressive ways to expand on class lore. Legion messed that up a bit by design because it required to homogenize classes some, but I don’t think that folk should look at things like the Sunwalkers joining up with the Silver Hand as them losing what they were. They are still Druid of the Sun, they just recognize their similarity to Paladins and joined for that conflict.

My point being that Blizz can make convincing ways for a class to be a part of any races lore, with some finagling.

Draenei Warlock.

I need this in my life.

Night Elf Paladin.

What I meant is, in regard to class and race limitations, and even faction association, design and lore are intertwined in such a way that design can dictate lore. New races are designed around which faction they should join. That lore is flexible when the developers need it to be. Every class can be fit to any race, with minimal effort. All you need is a different perspective on preestablished lore. And that said lore is constantly crowing. If players want a living breathing world, part of that, is change.

Pandarens could have easily joined the Horde, or Alliance. But remained neutral. Most of the new races could have joined either side as well. For instance, Kul Tirans look like the villains we fight as Alliance, and could have easily sided with the Horde. All it takes is a writer adding a few lines of background lore to rationalize it.

And don’t get me wrong, I fully support Sunwalkers. One of my only Horde PC’s is a Tauren Paladin. But anyone can be empowered by their faith, and anyone can turn to the light. It’s why Forsaken can be Holy priests.

Druids make sense for Druids of the Flame in my mind at least.

Vulpera druids, like come on. there’s so much animal symbology in their culture they’d be perfect. Hyena travel form, carrion feeder flight form, krolusk guardian form, moonkin and cat forms I’m not super sure on, but maybe they could make cat form into a serpent like the druids of the fang from way back in wailing caverns
