As mostly an rdruid I’ve found bears and brews seem to be the best for me even though they aren’t meta. I’ve just found they are easier to heal with hots than other tanks that need big heals between cd’s. They’ll still take other healers over me, but I prefer to take them on my keys and have more success with them compared to other tanks.
I hate healing blood DK’s, even though everybody seems to love them.
The way their HP bar yoyos just has me freaking out, lol.
Don’t get me wrong, they’re good and all, but I basically treat them as a DPS as far as heals go. Just toss a Rejuv or something every now and then because they are very self-sufficient.
I am not very fond of healing Brewmaster Monks, either. Although that may be a case of pilot error because I know Brew is one of the higher skillcap tanks.
The other tanks I have no problem with.
I keep all hots on them and it seems to work well. They take pretty steady damage with no major spikes besides a few mechanics and if they stagger it well it’s still pretty steady. Maybe I’ve been luck with them, but they’re about to be buffed a lot so it might be even better
Watch their Runic Power bar. They have RP, they’ll heal themselves. When their RP bar is low is when they’ll need heals.
Bears and Warriors seem to have the most consistent damage intake. Warrior needing more heals, but has much smaller “spikes”
Oh that’s good info thanks; I may have power bars turned off in the Interface, I’ll have to check
I mean keep your HoTs on em, but get ready to drop a Regrowth when their RP dips below 50
Ive been dragging around a ret paladin since WoD to all my group content.
They tend to have whatever resto is missing at the time; wog and lay on hands for unexpected burst damage, bop for bleeds or a threat drop, disease dispell. As a dps buddy theyre pretty great when they actually pay attention.
I dont dislike any well played tank, theyre all good, i dislike poorly played prot pallys and BDKs most since theyre passive mit is low and bad ones dont give you anytime to save them, but no tank can be full carried by a healer past 3s anymore.
Brews nice, the stagger works well with the hots and i enjoy tank healing since we get to really play into the hots layering for it without a ton of overheal. Maybe its just the stigma against them leaving them desperate, but they also invite me pretty quick.
I mained or first alted bdk long enough to know how they work so healing decent ones has never been a problem for me
Vdh, warrior, and bear are all fine, as long as im on top of tankbusters or dispells they live off my passive aoe a majority of the time.
I’ll heal any kind of tank and it usually works out fine.
That said, Warriors have a steady, predictable damage intake. I like healing a warrior.
Bear tanks are practically self-sustaining, and they have always been my favorites. If I keep a bear properly stacked, between my cooldowns and his, we’re never gonna have an issue or even a scary moment. I love healing bears.
I don’t like healing stranger/pug DKs and DHs, but I’m fine healing the ones I know. You get used to healing a spiky damage intake over the course of a season with a familiar player because they will either tell you on comms that they’re out of juice or you just fall into the habit of watching their bar. That’s all you need for proper cooldown coverage.
I’d say in BfA, I thought Resto druid and Brewmaster went together like “peas and carrots” as Mr. Gump used to say
In more recent times, I really enjoy working with Protection Paladins…just a safe bet, for lots of the similar reasons, but more goodies for the party. They can be quick on their feet, aren’t squishy, external defensive options, battle rez, self sustain, decent dps & healing output, etc.
I can work with any of them though, and I’ve had a great experience with pretty much every tank, including warriors and bears…as rare as they seem to come!
Said no healer ever…
Although some healers I guess have reached the next stage of consciousness, where they just simply deal with a Blood DK by putting a black tape on their monitor over their healthbar and pretending they aren’t there. It’s better for their sanity.
As a bear, I have found trees provide plenty of shade!
Would be kool if all the things that “extend casts of Rejuv by 3 sec” (or other druid HOTs) applied to all druid HOT’s on your bear tank—even if they are cast by a different druid.
They want to make tanking and healing more interesting, creating unique synergies between specific tank healer combos could add a whole new dimension to it.
