What classes are in demand?

Im going to level an alliance character and don’t really mind what class I level. obviously there are an abundance of warriors and mages and we don’t need anymore, so what class is not overplayed and really needed atm?

I see relatively few warlocks around and priests are always in high demand, I’d recommend one of those two depending on whether you want to dps or heal.

Check out Ironforge (dot) pro website for census info. Never really 100% but not horrible either. For my realm Myzrael:

Alliance

Warrior 447 / 17.9%
Mage 389 / 15.6%
Priest 327 / 13.1%
Rogue 300 / 12.0%
Hunter 288 / 11.5%
Paladin 285 / 11.4%
Druid 233 / 9.3%
Warlock 231 / 9.2%

Horde

Warrior 201 / 19.7%
Mage 153 / 15.0%
Shaman 133 / 13.0%
Priest 132 / 12.9%
Rogue 124 / 12.1%
Warlock 98 / 9.6%
Hunter 95 / 9.3%
Druid 85 / 8.3%

I believe this only counts level 60 characters, that have logged in during the prior few weeks. But its a decent snapshot of whats out there, and whats active vs whats needed.

It counts characters who appear in raid logs during the last two weeks, so not necessarily all 60s and no lowbies, but blizzard keeps the real data private so we don’t really know the exact numbers, if.pro is the best guide we have to work with.

Sums it up perfectly!

Aside from mage/warrior, you could probably find a spot readily as any class. More about loot competition than anything else, so you might find more luck as a dagger or mace rogue than a sword rogue, for example.

Dwarf priest.

You can find a spot as a mage or a warrior too. They are the most played classes for a reason and are highly sought after in PVP, 5 mans, world content and raids. My guild runs 11-12 warriors and 6 mages, versus 2 each of hunter, druid and lock, for example.

Plus AH parses for ratios

i was thinking about this…

This is a pretty interesting pattern which reflects the meta. It might not be indicative of what is needed but rather, what is played.

The top three are probably more in “need” than the bottom three. Come to think of it, I can recall several times waiting for the top three, and not really noticing the bottom three.

Regardless: balance Druid not afraid to spam faerie fire in raids is likely the answer.
