What class uses conjuring to fight?

So im struggling understanding how magic exactly works in relation to spells and its use in the playstyles lore and rp wise with classes. There are the various schools of magic such as illusion and conjuring. And they are all under arcane magic. My question is, what class uses conjuration magic to fight as a class? I understand mages can conjure weapons and enchant them to fight on their own or use them in combat (kaelthas and rhonin) or death knights with the dancing rune weapon. But in game, mages dont do this.

The reason i ask is bc im trying to rp a class that has a similar power style to green lantern where they can imagine weapons and use them through conjuration.

A friend of mine said the only class that really does this is paladins, they create hammers and blades out of light. While mages only cast spells or at most conjure food not weapons. Shamans conjure feral spirits but its only a cooldown not several abilities. Paladins also conjure shields.

Maybe conjuration doesnt exactly fit the bill of what im looking for. But id like to hear everyones thoughts on this. Right now im stuck between mage, shaman and paladin. Also… elementals wouldnt count bc theyre being summoned from another plane not a creation spell or conjuring spell. If i also misused conjuring as far as the school of magic in wow please let me know.

well conjurers in the WoW lore are just curious arcane magi. They summon elementals, scorpions, sometimes crazy stuff like worgen (In the case of arugal). I’m just picturing some obsessed dalaran wizard having too much fun with all this elven magic and summoning crazy stuff. the arcane familiar would probably be a conjuration as well as the water elemental and mirror images. the most notable conjurer ever was medivh’s dad, nielas aran, the court conjurer.

Wouldn’t it be a combination of conjuration and abjuration?

Keep in mind, conjuring automatically implies that it is being summoned from somewhere else, to you.

but, yes Pallies work because of the light hammers and swords and shields.

A Mage would be the best for a Conjurer theme. I think that is even a title of theirs in Legion. But as you say - they don’t have the Green Lantern-meta physical/physical creation abilities IN COMBAT.

A Paladin does. Since faith and zeal is what drive them, regardless of their goals, it isnt even a stretch to RP that faith in your self creates the items.

Pallys make bubbles/shells, shields, hammers, various weapons (judgement glyphs), swords.

Mages through Arcane. Assumedly Shamans through Spirit or Decay.

Conjuration is summoning magic. The most shown combat application being the summoning of elementals.

Okay cool so yea, conjuring or summoning something isnt exactly what i had in mind. Its really the ability to create something, like creation magic using the imagination (like green lantern) so i guess paladin fits best.

I just wanted to post here to clarify one small thing.

Conjuration is 100% the creation magic you want. It creates something new. Summoning or actually conjuring something from another plane falls under transmutation, magic that controls space and time. The elementals mages summon are usually not real elementals either, as they’ve been created with conjuration magic.

Blame DnD for the confusion, as that’s likely where Blizzard got their inspiration for the names of the magic schools. It doesn’t make sense, but that’s how it is.

I’d post links, but lack the trust level. If you want more info, search up “Arcane” on Wowpedia; it’s an excellent source that goes into a decent bit of detail on the schools of magic. There’s a few pages with the name “Arcane” if I recall, so you might not immediately get the right one.

I’d agree paladin is still your best bet to represent the idea in game.

The water elementals that mages summon are real elementals. Tides of War confirms this I believe.

It’s possible to do both, but the real ones are summoned with transmutation magic. Again, I’d post links, but I can’t.

You are right that mages can call upon real elementals though.

The in-game books rather clearly outline that Conjuration is the magic of summoning. Transmutation relates to polymorph, slow fall, and blink as examples of manipulating time and space.

I’d point out that same book clearly mentions mages “creating” in reference to the ability.

There’s several instances where conjured items are referred to as created, but I’m mostly basing my statement off of:
" Mages can combine water and air vapors into a water elemental for a short time before they deconstruct into their base liquid forms."

That quote comes from one of the Warcraft III manuals, and should still be canonical.

If you want to claim summon means created, that’s fine. Or that Conjuration can do both raw creation and summoning. But there’s no questioning the quote given is, “Conjuration is the study of summoning - both creatures and objects.”

I would claim summoning means created, but I’m thinking this might just be a mistake on Blizzard’s part.

Transporting something magically clearly falls under transmutation, so summoning should fall neatly under there.

However, in addition to creating, summoning is used several times in reference to conjuration.

It’s probably both and Blizzard just forgetting the definitions of their own schools of magic.

Edit: just some quotes I found with Blizzard using the word summoning, while also clearly indicating the thing summoned has been created:

“By use of this spelll an Archmage can summon and control a powerful elemental composed of water and air vapors.”

“The caster uses the forces of nature to create a water elemental. He summons the forces of air and water and combines them into a simulacrum to defend the lands.”

Quotes from the manuals for the Warcraft games.

Thus, I will claim summoning refers to creating in the case of conjured items.

The top of that list would be Demonology Warlocks, but they aren’t the only ones.

Frost Magi conjure Water Elementals. and some Fire Magi can call meteors from the sky.

Shamans conjure Elementals and Spirit Wolves.

Beastmaster Hunters can summon animals to battle.
