Qualifications

  1. Ranged Only
  2. Prefer a Class With Some Mobility
  3. I do Arenas’ and Battleground Blitz at Max Level.
  4. I perfer Off Meta Classes’/Specs’
  5. Preferably a Class With At Least 2 DPS Specs.

Okay, so let’s see what qualifies:

  1. Hunter, Warlock, Mage, Priest, Shaman, Druid, and Evoker.

  2. Eliminating classes with very limited mobility we’re left with DEFINITELY:

Hunter, Mage, Druid, Evoker.

Arguably

Warlocks. Teleports are cool.

  1. They’re all fine there.

  2. Off meta is rough nowadays. Aren’t a lot of sleeper hits in this bunch. So let’s go in reverse order of how often they’re played above 2400 in BGB.

    • Evoker
    • Mage
    • Warlock (Mage and Warlock are very close)
    • Druid
    • Hunter

However,

  1. Two dps specs makes things tricky.

SO HERE IS YOUR LIST GOOD SIR

  1. Evoker. - Two DPS specs, Aug and Devas. Both are underplayed, ranged, highly mobile ranged classes. Only one is truly viable, though.

  2. Mage - Three DPS specs, Frost, Arcane and Fire in that order for representation. Extremely mobility, good in both arena and BGB. Not super well represented in BGB, but hardly “off meta” by any definition. Then again, none of these classes are truly off meta.

  3. Warlock - Aff, Destro and Demo, in that order of strength. A great option, imo, but only if you like messing with ports. If ports don’t work for you, this is not going to be mobile.

  4. Druid - Only one viable ranged spec. You’ll cast a lot of lasers. But very, very strong. Not off meta at all. But lots of mobility and does have a strong melee spec if you’re factoring that in. I’ve also heard it’s a good FC, if that’s your thing.

  5. Lol. It checks every box you have, except it’s the most meta thing in the world right now, at least in BGB.

Start with MM hunter. Then you’ll understand why all other specs are bad.

We should really stop advising players with warlock. It’s by far the least enjoyable class for someone that wants to pick up a ranged class for the first time.

Entry level to ranged specs should just be hunters and devoker. Mage is good if the player knows how to trade cds. Lock is not a beginner friendly class imo, it requires team assistance to function well and is the kill target 99% of the time.

op if you are overwhelmed with choices then let me make them for you. Pick the one that doesn’t make your stomach turn:

  1. Play a Devoker. Just call it a day. If you want to have cross progression just get a second devoker.
  2. I hate saying this but play a mage.

If you want to have multiple DPS specs for cross progression check which of these options Banaritaz nailed down have the same stat priority across specs so you could even reuse the same gear. Option #1 is best though
