What class should be the designated profession gatherer?

I need a class that focuses on mining and herb for my other toons so they can have two crafting professions, but I am not sure which to pick. Right now, I am leveling a priest, I plan to just heal in raids and do gdkps. She has herb/mining, but i also have a pally with mining/skinning, so i am not sure which the least useful class is for making stuff. Ideally, I want to have engineer/X for all my other classes and have just one mining toon.

It might depend on exactly which Classic mode you’re playing, but a case can be made for a few classes as good gatherers.

I have a mage for herbalism, which is nice because he can teleport and get around to different zones more quickly. Also, the ability to sheep is nice in some situations, and just generally being safe and handy as a solo class.

Druid can stealth, and can also do underwater form and travel form/flight form, which can be good for collecting some nodes. In general, good for gathering on PvP servers.

Rogue can stealth and vanish, which could be good for skipping mobs and also staying safe in PvP areas.

Hunter has Eagle Eye ability, which is good for scouting, and as a class is generally good at doing stuff in the overworld.

If it’s just pally vs. priest, and priest is more your intended main, I’d probably make the paladin the mule, so you can get maximum benefits from the engineering or other crafting profession on your priest.

You can’t go wrong with Druids with gathering, especially in TBC. Druids can skin/herb in flight form, an advantage over all other classes. Cat stealth for mining in the ogre caves in Nagrand is excellent too. Stealth → flight form when near mobs is another advantage Druids have over all other classes.

In Classic, Hunters and Shaman are also good. Shaman can also skin/herb in Ghost Wolf form; however since you’re playing Alliance that’s not an option yet.

flowers druid.

general that throws in rocks…hunter. Pet tanks, slowly kills if mobs on it while you mine (or pick flowers). Efficiency at its finest.

Hunter because FD and pet are ridiculously useful

If you’re horde:
Druid.
Druids get a Herbing bonus.
You can also herb while in forms.

Druids love flowers

Everyone always says Druid but I’m really in favor of Hunter.

Someone else mentioned it, but their kit is perfect for gathering imo.

Traps/Pets to take care of mobs around nodes and Feign Death to quickly drop combat remount and be on your way.

Don’t have to buy a mount on a druid.

You didn’t specify which version of WoW. I’m going to assume vanilla.

I’ve thought about this extensively and have leveled a character on both of my accounts for this exact purpose.

The correct answer is Hunter. Tauren hunter if you’re horde for the +15 herbalism which allows you to have a guaranteed pick on black lotus with enchanted herbalist gloves. Anyone who says otherwise is simply incorrect.

Main reason is eagle eye. You can greatly reduce the time it takes to do a lap in a zone when you learn to utilize this. Your pet, feign death, traps, aspect of the cheetah and scatter shot are all great bonuses that can all help you gather just a little faster.

The only other options are if you want to just plant your character in one spot where you farm the same stuff over and over by either AFKing there or logging in every X number of minutes to check. If this is your farming method then a rogue or druid is a better option because of stealth. There are some really good places to do this such as the ooze cave in The Hinterlands for ghost mushroom and mithril/solid stone.

Now if you’re talking about TBC or pretty much any other expansion the answer is probably druid because flight form is instant.

druid, hunter, rogue and mage are all really good
hunters can feign/use pet on mobs plus eagle view snipe nodes. rogue can vanish/stealth on nodes same go for dru
lock decent too only thing dont wanna farm with like priest and war lol sham even is meh far view is nice for node sniping about it or if u need some water to run on
