i’m thinkin of playing classic WoW to explore how azeroth used to be, but uh… well, i did’nt really play it past when it first came-out again, and even then i only got to like, level 14 or something (a nice guy gave my character some green pants, so that was pretty-sweet).
but uh… well, as you all can probably tell, i have no idea what class is best for surviving as a solo-player in the older-version of the game. so, any particular class you folks reccomend would be very helpful! i’m thinking of making my character a dwarf, cause… well, dwarves are awesome. so, any advice picking a class for me?
NOTE: i’m not playing hardcore! that kinda gameplay looks too crazy for me! i just want a character i can play so i can get a good look at how the world used to be!
But even if a class is labeled S tier or even the rare S+ tier that doesnt mean that is plays as top for you. You might be one of those players who plays F tier class at an S level and the S toon at an F level. Those I listed can be great for many and in that order, but can be terrible for others. Try about 1 hour on each 4 hours on each if you have the time and take your pick from that. Pretty difficult to make a main in Classic and then end up switching to a new main 40 levels in, so you find your main in Classic, stick to it and dont switch around.
If you want simple dps - warlock
Complicated dps - hunter
The actual easiest / best leveling (and easiest to get a group with later on) - priest
Go priest, put 5 first talent points (10-15) in the shadow tree that gives you spirit and lets you Regen a ton of mana while casting. After that go holy or disc and smite spam your way to an easy 60. Healing in vanilla is also completely different than it is in retail, it is much much simpler and actually a good time. Lower stress by far.
Better to change the forum category to the Classic General Discussion.
But Hunters, Warlocks, Mages (with frost’s slows and polymorph etc) and Druids are pretty durable. Priests and Paladins are also durable BUT are extremely mind numbing leveling as you just wand/auto attack.
Hunters, druids, paladins, and shamans would take my votes. Warlock can be a good one too. Really comes down to how fast or slow you are willing to go.
great post OP…our little group started classic toons today!
Anyway, I think Druids are top tier survivability. Escape artists, bear form and great heals, so you don’t need to stop and eat very often. We also get the best buff in the game!
I’ve been having a ton of success with Warlock. It’s a little rough until you get a Voidwalker, but so long as you keep yourself decently geared and focus a rotation and get health and mana potions, you should be alright. Idk why the blueberry can’t seem to hold aggro, but if you keep Stamina as your second highest stat via gear, you should be tough enough to take whatever hits the blueberry lets through.
If you do go that route, I advise playing Affliction. It’s definitely the best in WOTLK, and deals very reliable damage while leveling. And also get a wand so conserve mana after you pop some DOTs.
Hunters are king.
If I’m not mistaken, the in-game class description on the character creation UI back in Classic was basically “Best class for solo players”
I’m having a ball with a feral Druid. It’s quite nice to easily beat down one or two in cat form. And if I get mobbed, one click and I’m a viable bear! Stealth is also a huge help.
I’m also using the pawn addon to help with gear upgrades. A mouse over will tell you what percentage of upgrade and which spec.
One thing pawn doesn’t seem to take into consideration is hit. You need a lot of hit to make life easier.
Paladin is probably the safest class to play considering its a healing mail/plate class, just extremely boring to level with the playstyle of auto attacking mostly. Hunter is also extremely good due to pets having taunts and can tag multiple mobs at once rapidly after you get used to pet control. Frost mage otherwise as you have insane aoe clear/cc, poly for high prio targets, 2 defensives in ice block and frost barrier +the baseline mana barrier which is good
First 20 levels on a Mage are a trick (that’s why the disclaimer).
When I went to Classic, I picked a Druid for the speed and the stealth. An NE druid can shadowmeld and drop aggro. Kitty form for one, two, three mobs, Bear form for the rest. Really versatile.
