I am looking the best lore aproach for caster worgen. I know druid fits the best while mage may not but I would like to read your opinions
Arugal was a mage… he created the worgen. So Mage.
But he was not worgen and I believe he was more warlock than mage as I remember he used to cast shadow bolts
I think all of them fit. They were Gilneans before Worgen. They had studied Magic and Fel and Nature. So all fit, imo.
Shadow beast.
He’s considered a mage. But Arugal dabbled in a lot of stuff.
Worgen were and are humans. So about the same as any other humans. Arcane magic is very popular. The religion of Gilneas is the Light so priests strongly exist too. Warlocks have always been on the unpopular edges of society, but they’re floating around.
Think of it less from the perspective of “What would a worgen be?” And more what was your human life like? Since worgen was an unwilling transformation that happened later and relatively recently. But your lifestyle wouldn’t have changed from it.
Mages can do more than just the arcane, fire, frost magic that is typical. He was in fact a mage and he created the worgen curse. He did some shadow magic but was still a mage at its core. I don’t think he got into demonic summoning or anything so he’s definitely not a warlock.
I believe that shadow priest or warlock fits the best for their dark nature
I think druid or warlock are your best fit for worgen
Warlock I would say. They cast curses and Worgen is a curse as well. Fits well imo.
Also the Council of the Black Harvest has a Worgen member.
Moonkin, moons are the theme.
I would’ve said Shadow Priest if this was pre-legion, but not anymore since they’re linked to the old gods. Regardless, I will note the Shadow Weavers in Duskwood that have been present since vanilla and use shadow priest (and shadow bolt) abilities. I don’t think it has much to do with the worgen anymore unless you pretend you’re playing an old school priest though.
Affliction Warlock works since it’s the curse spec, something which worgens are very closely linked to. The downside here is that the worgen curse is clearly druidic and has nothing to do with demons.
And then obviously Balance Druid is by far the most fitting class. Worgens are sane because they obtained balance after being cursed, and the Scythe of Elune that helped cure them is the Balance Druid artifact. Unfortunately, you can’t get around druid being the most fitting.
Dont do caster for worgen. Insetad, do hunter, warrior or rogue
Worgen aren’t human anymore. When they die they don’t revert to a human form nor do they become human when they are ghost in the shadowlands. The curse changes them body and soul. The human look is little more than a disguise at this point. Before the shadowlands if you tried to use a barber shop while in human form it would tell you you can’t use that while shapeshifted.
All the options are more than fine and make perfect sense lore wise. Gilnean humans practiced all these magic schools.
The reason druid is more defined than the others is because the Worgen curse allowed them to channel more into the shapeshift aspect of the druidic magic that Night Elves/ trolls could.
Before the Worgen curse Gilneans were harvest witches otherwise known as a more lighter form of druids.
Well in the past Blizz said when worgen like the Gilneans reproduce the kid will be a normal human. Not a worgen, but a purified human. The worgen form is a magical curse, not a permanent genetic trait that can be passed on like other races. In less than 100 years all of Gilneas will become a regular human kingdom again.
So they aren’t entirely non-human anymore, but a hybrid in between. It’s debatable and up to you which side you want to identify with.
But for this thread I just meant the worgen curse is a physical affliction and has no real bearing on your class lifestyle. Aside from druids, since it enhances their powers.
Druid, Mage, Priest and Warlock can all work well depending on what aspects you want to work with.
Druids are good if you want to go down the “this curse is now our strength” route. Since the connection to Goldrinn and the Emerald Dream from being worgen would definitely benefit druids.
Mage is good if you want to go down the “still human at heart” route. They were a mage before and becoming worgen didn’t change that.
Priest is good if you want to focus on “duality”. Both worgen and priests have strong duality themes.
Warlock is good if you want to focus on the “cursed” aspect. They’re cursed and everyone else will be as well.
One of the strongest warlocks in lore and that’s still alive is a worgen
