What can the wow team take away from baldurs gate?

Baldurs gate 3 dropped recently and people have praised it. I havent played but watched allot of interactions on stream. interactions like voting for which option to chose or what path to go down or even who to kill.
what do you think wow team can take away from baldurs gate 3?

my hopes is maybe interactive NPC leveling alongside our characters and us choosing to kill, romance, or befriend ( or betray ) some of them; interactable through outdoor camping sites.

I don’t think you can compare an MMO like WoW to an RPG like BG3. WoW requires a sort of shared world and shared storytelling that makes it difficult to reconcile different players choices unless you make those choices meaningless which then just feels bad. Remember the Horde players who chose to support Sylvanas and those who chose to rebel against her? That was, technically, a big and meaningful choice that meant nothing to the overall story.

If we are given an NPC’s story to go through, if Blizzard ever wants to use them again, then they’ll have to make a canon version of that character and invalidate a large number of players’ personal interactions with that character.

I think WoW can really improve their writing but you cannot make the same decisions as you would for BG3.

I was going to say something along the lines of the ā€˜romance option’ sells but… let’s just go with the whole DnD aspect. I’d of simplified what I meant but I think that word is outlawed here for all i know

very little because they’re not at all the same genre of game.

Honestly, that would be too much work on their part to complete.

"our characters and us choosing to kill, romance, or befriend "

You mean I wouldn’t be the lonest mage in wow??

Be passionate about what you’re developing and respect the fans and their attachment to an IP. That’s the best thing any developer should take away from Baldur’s Gate 3.

Not a ton due to the differences in game type.

Maybe allowing more character customization?

Ive heard there’s a certain scene Including a druid in bear form…

I’m sure moonguard would love that as an addition.

wow is a mmorpg. it might be a hard leap but incorperating RPG elements might be benificial if done properly.

meaning is applied subjectively. even the choice between coke or pepsi can be meaningful if at the bare minimum pointless.

it was very pointless and i think it was done improperly.

i recently came upon this server like locus to a field. was a hordey. dont blame the server for my depravity xD

no doubt. would go far.

heck yea would be rad. always hyped for more.

we have those druids. i think its unbearably cringe but there character TRP are often really well done.

This was my answer, character customization. It blows me away how weak the customization in retail is.

I’m not gonna say, ā€œOh lul, WoW should transform its self into a real RPG over nightā€ so I will pick the most practical thing.

Maybe more ability customization. They seriously need to bring the Glyph system back, like it’s time lol.

StarWars has all that

More options in choices would be nice.

Would you like to…

help this brain creature out
help this brain creature out after actually skill checking medical skill (gets possibly better results)
jsut kill it right now.

BG3 intro Story still goes on regardless.

In this little bit in the intro you jsut decide how you get a companion for the next few minutes.

Or…no companion at all since you failed the rolls. Or you killed it.

Same intro I ran twice. I still get off that ship. One I had a brain companion. the other…I didn’t. I failed dex check to ā€œfixā€ it to be more compliant. It was not happy, and ran away.

This is what RPG means to some. Also how you make it harder for those who say wow is easy. tick off NPC’s…game gets harder.

Find new work.

Corporate suits are unlikely to switch gears where money is concerned.

I’m sure the people on Moonguard would love to have the bear druid romance options from BG 3

everyone deserves a chance to aquire a careebear

I suppose it helps that BG3’s devs didn’t try to add exact duplicates of races with gimmicks. Maybe that’s something Blizzard should think about.

Yes. I’m still miffed Void Elves have no lore, no presence, no nothing really. Also, Lightforged Draenei and Mechagnomes are literally the same race with 110% as much as their main race’s gimmick.

I played some BG3 (like all turn based games I play stages so I finished the tutorial stage so break time!)

The two games genre wise aren’t comparable, but, what they can take away is some of the customization options present, mainly voice picking.

I would love to have higher or lower pitches for my character’s voice instead of the same hum drum voice pitch. Some characters I would like to make more androgynous compared to other characters in my roster. In Balder’s gate, my character is Androgynous due to being able to have that voice selector / identity selector.

I gotta play more of it. It’s got a massive learning curve to it because I um… I haven’t played DND or even looked at it in a while so the dice and rolls and everything is taking a while to get used to.

Reminding me of the original Fallout though so that’s fun where the original Fallout was point and click, stats and chances at failing or succeeding etc.

Obligatory I love dress-up followers in all games.

Oh yeah fair point.

The follower I customized looks like Weird Al LOL

I think romancing NPCs in a game is weird in a game about combat.

Like, does Madden or FIFA need a mini game where, instead of practicing set plays, you try to court Tom Brady to come out of retirement? Does Peyton Manning in a cowboy hat start a love war with your top wide receiver?

… wait, you might be on to something…
