What Buttons to Keep on My Bars

Hi so I’ve returned to my hunter after about 6 months of not playing him and my question is- What “Spells” should I keep on my bars as I’m running out of space already at level 42?
I’m playing a Beast Mastery Spec. Also what two types of pets should I have out?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

You should always have a choice of a ferocity pet (for bloodlust) and tenacity pet (pref spirit beast) for pve, depending on group needs. for pvp you will usually want a cunning pet with mortal strike (debuff to healing received by targets). petopia has a guide of various pet families and their abilities.

your second pet is entirely aesthetic - its family doesn’t matter, so you can use anything you want for your animal companion pet. most hunters try to match two of the same type eg if they’re using loque’nahak as their main pet they might try and tame a second loque’nahak as their a/c pet for the symmetry, but you don’t have to.

Core rotational abilities: Kill shot, cobra shot, barbed shot, kill command, multi-shot, bestial wrath

Must-have utility (keeps you alive):

  • mend pet (becomes revive pet when pet dies)
  • dismiss pet (in case pets bug out or you need to jump off a 2 foot ledge and don’t want your pet to pull the entire dungeon)
  • call pet
  • exhilaration (self-heal)
  • feign death (aggro dump)
  • aspect of the turtle (immune)
  • survival of the fittest (damage reduction)
  • disengage, aspect of the cheetah (movement buffs)
  • command pet (your pet family’s special ability - bloodlust for fero, commanding shout for tenacity, cc removal for cunning)

Really-nice-to-have utility (not must-haves for solo play, but very very helpful for most group content) - sometimes situational:

  • counter shot (interrupt)
  • freezing trap, binding shot, intimidation (cc)
  • tranquilising shot (dispel)
  • camouflage (stealth)
  • flare (anti-stealth, more for pvp but sometimes useful for pve mechanics)
  • tar trap (slow).

special mention:

  • fetch, eagle eye, eyes of the beast. 99% useless but occasionally you’ll kill a bird halfway up a mountain and can’t reach it to loot it without fetch, or get bored defending lumber mill and decide to eagle-eye across the map to see how the fight at stables is going in AB.
  • misdirection - wasn’t sure which category to put this in; personally i use it on cooldown in solo content (in a macro to target my pet) but forget to use it in group content because bm hunters don’t generate much threat ourselves to pass on. i’d put it on your bars anyway.

thank you so very very much this is so helpful both the rotation I should use and also the pets as I was confused. I will be using all your advice. Thanks once again.

You can add bars such that there should be enough space for all of the abilities; if you need to put some lesser-used abilities on the side bars, you can do that.

thank you very much I just checked last night and seen that you can add a heap more bars. So thank you for your help.
