When riding on the Deeprun Tram, what is that body of water that the tram passes under halfway through? The tram is a straight shot (x and y but not z) from Stormwind to Ironforge. It has to be an outside body of water as evidence by the lighting in the water.
At first I thought that it was maybe Loch Modan…but that is east of Ironforge. Then I thought maybe it was the ocean, but that is west of Ironforge. The only thing I can think is that it is Helm’s Bed Lake or Iceflow Lake.
What do you guys think?
It’s been a mystery since vanilla days. Though now we can try to guess it’s the gap between SW and Dun Morogh, but we know it’s not that deep or tropical looking.
What body of water that is, is one of Warcraft’s greatest mysteries.
The tram was original slated to go from SW to Darnassus. It was changed to run from SW to IF. Most believe they didn’t bother taking out the underwater part.

It’s the outskirts of Vash’jir. The gnomes who built the tram were masters of warping time and space.

It’s a giant fish tank because Gnomes have no self control.

I believe it’s Hayven Games that has a video on it. I might be wrong on the creator but there is a video out there about it.

Oh, now I actually want to log in on an Alliance alt and see if I can find it.
There’s a chunk of open sea between Stormwind and the southern end of Dun Morogh. I always just assumed it was that.

Ever go to the Horde portal room? Inside you can look up and see outside. Go above where that opening should be and it makes absolutely no sense. Like an opening couldn’t even be there.

Yeah more or less. The tram was actually supposed to have multiple tracks leading to Darn, IF, and even Gnomeregan. Based on what can be seen from early alpha versions of Ironforge, the Dun Morough adjacent part was likely supposed to be its own little loop.

I believe if you take the time to look at what is in the water you will realize it actually an aquarium.
Scattered inside the body of water is a treasure chest, a Deeprun Diver, shipwrecks, a large beast named “Nessy”, a giant clam, two Naga Sirens, and a Basking Shark.

Neat thread, learned some things.
I always wished they had developed that tram station more, that concept. Seemed kinda strange they just left it as a one off.

Did you notice it also runs east to west? Crazy times

Would be cool if it went to more places

After looking at the location enterence of the tram to about the same location of the icon in Ironforge. Stormwind and Ironforge are still connected through The Great Sea due to The Shattering and Deathwing going Rawr. Taking the direct route via Flight you literally go through The Great Sea. So, it is plausable that the development team did not even have to modify the original concept of The Tram.

I never lined it up but it was originally slated to go to Darn. And Blizz is well know for “forgetting” lol!!

I’ve read that it was originally supposed to go between Stormwind and Darnassus but was changed to Ironforge in the alpha/beta. The graphics on the route were never updated.
