What are your thoughts

So I noticed this a lot in the rp zone where void elf rpers are usually complaining about dwarves and human’s smelling bad, even worse than orcs and trolls but not as bad as undead and that kinda makes no sense to me, alliance races are more hygienic than horde overall, so is this assumption that alliance races smell perhaps worse than some horde races lore accurate? Also, why would a void elf even complain about such thing, they are living in the center of a human city, shouldn’t they be thankful instead of criticize their hosts, or is it just a elf thing where they have to criticize the races they live with? I imagine the Blood Elves complained about smell too on the Horde but the Horde just ignores them lol.

All elves should be thankful to their human overlords

Void Elves are generally just like their Blood Elven brethren. Snotty. Expect them to treat any other race like they’re below them.

One Blood Elf race was enough in this game on 1 faction. Now we have to deal with the same Blood Elves on this side lol and their complaints about smells. I was told in the RP section that I (kultiran human) smell like dead fish and I was called a “thing.” I’m a person, not a thing. How rude!

Frankly, we need to kick the elves out of the Alliance.

Ideally, it would just be the Human-Dwarf-Gnome broship. Stupid treehuggers and voidsniffers aren’t needed.

lmao lmao lmao lol that made my day

Hm. I think the LEAST OFFENSIVE odor wise would be:

  1. Blood Elves
  2. Nightborn
  3. Void Elves
  4. Draenei (they are goats but pretty immaculate and tidy)
  5. Stormwind Humans

I imagine Dwarves smell from the food in their beards. Kul Tirans stink of fish. Worgen smell like dog. Gnomes are greasy and tinker when they should bathe. And Night Elves are… close to nature = smelly hippies.

Elves probably think everybody smells bad. They’re basically a walking shampoo commercial.

Why would you rank your kin under the Nightborn? That’s odd.

Pretty much any city that allows mounts to openly walk around will smell bad, since said mounts will inevitably crap in the road. You might not think this is much of an issue with one or two horses, but assume that Stromwind has a fair number of these running around (knights / carriages / etc.) It adds up after a while. This was actually one of the benefits of automobiles replacing horses as the main mode of transportation for cities. You could probably say the same for Org too (wolves). Interestingly, Thunder Bluff wouldn’t have this problem since kodos logistically don’t make sense up there.

That being said, I’d imagine velfs complaining about humans and dwarves smelling is probably just people imagining what any sort of non-nelf elf would say about humans.

You assume. Medieval peoples in reality and fantasy weren’t always known to be big fans of bathing. Whether it was due to the heavy hand of the catholic church or a society-wide fear of disease, humans and other similar races likely wouldn’t smell like a bed of roses. In most medieval settings, the vast majority of people’s daily hygiene consists of washing their hands, faces, and teeth. It depends on several factors which Blizzard has never really given much info on. Elves though are usually portrayed as being very concerned with hygiene, fashion, appearance, etc.

Are you saying the Void Elves would rank us humans and dwarves below the orcs, trolls and taurens in terms of smell and hygiene?

Also, the only toilets we ever seen in WoW are outhouses which leads one to believe they likely use the same toilet system as much of medieval Europe; chamber pots. Which are then dumped into the street or canal every morning. And there’s no garbage service so most food scraps and offal from butcher shops, tanneries and the like is also dumped right into the streets. The streets of stormwind would likely smell no better than the Undercity which is a literal sewer.

What I’m saying is that body odor, urine, feces, and garbage tend to smell pretty close regardless of what group of people it’s coming out of. So Stormwind likely wouldn’t smell any better than Orgrimmar. But it is also safe to assume that many of these Void Elves likely spent the bulk of their time in Silvermoon, an elven city, which likely does smell better than Stormwind and Orgrimmar. So maybe they’re comparing the smell of humans to the smell of elves.

Edit: also take into account that tauren are covered in fur and may not sweat nearly as much as the other races of Azeroth. And lighter skinned peoples tend to sweat more than darker skinned people (talking exclusively temperature induced sweat, not strenuous activity sweat) and so that might mean that orcs and trolls sweat less than humans, dwarves, gnomes, etc. At least where outside temperature is involved. Also Orgrimmar is in a desert and is likely a lot drier than Stormwind so sweat evaporates off the skin as opposed to the more humid regions like Stormwind where sweat would soak the skin and clothing and linger long enough for bacteria on the skin to start putting off a lot of body odor. Also, the sun in Orgrimmar would dry out feces from mounts and citizens, evaporate urine, etc likely resulting in the streets of Orgrimmar not having as much decaying organic material (not counting nathanos and sylvanas hyuck hyuck) lying around decaying and putting off a lot of odor. Less stagnant water, etc. So really, yeah, Stormwind probably smells far worse than Orgrimmar just due to the weather and the biological defenses against said weather provided by the genetics of the peoples living within Orgrimmar.

Actually, it might not be the case with wolves. Or raptors or sabers or any other predatory mounts for that matter. Browsing and grazing animals like horses or elekks tend to just “go” where they stand or even as they walk, but predators often excrete more “strategically,” meaning they’d be prone to wait until they’re back in their stalls or pens.

The purple elves lives in a void rock, only the wood elves are currently living in the human capital because Blizzard has a fix with Orgrimmar and Stormwind. Besides humans stinks really hard, just read any book where most of the humans lacks of any plumbing system and showers in their homes like the middle age humans.

Also the humans of WoW are ugly as a kodo or Hakkar

musky orc scent

Humans smell better than orcs and trolls though.

This thread has made me see our cities in a new light. A… browner light.
