What are your thoughts on gender segregation in guilds?

I think its up to each guild to decide what they want to do. If you don’t like the rules don’t join it. I’ve never heard of a male only guild.

In vanilla my server had a female only guild. They did really well progression wise. When I tried to apply I found out they didn’t admit males which I found a bit upsetting because I wanted to raid with them because they did so well. Some of the best players I’ve met in this game over the years have been female.

While I think a guild can do what it wants, I think discriminating against one gender isn’t a good thing because we all want to have fun and you could miss out on some quality players.

If the point is to not admit males/females because you want to avoid drama or any issues that may arise well maybe recruit mature players and not morons who harass your female/male players. If you have to exclude someone because of gender you’re doing it wrong. If someone is harassing you in guild and leadership does nothing to fix it (and its real harassment and not made up because someone got your loot last raid) then maybe you should find a new guild.

I’ve seen it go both ways. Males harass females because they can’t get a gf irl. And also females who capitalize on the “beta” males and stir up drama in guild so they remain the center of attention and people carry them and give them every upgrade when it drops. Neither is ok and should be dealt with swiftly.

People still care about genders in a video game?

I consider all players equally worthless till they prove themselves to the guild.

I’ve played WoW since 2004. Even when I took breaks from WoD->BfA I was playing on Nost-type private servers with very loose rules. Not once have I joined, seen, or heard of a guild that bans women.

This is entire post is a bait and a lie.

Yo dawg, can I get them digits?

–every guild ever.

There was a guild on my server that was women only. They would not admit a male. You had to prove it on vent.

Absolutely false considering how every guild I’ve been in has had mixed gender rosters and the men talk exactly the same when the women are present. That includes most of the dirty jokes.

Heck, a lot of the women are more risqué than the men.

If you have people drastically changing their behavior it’s probably because they’re socially awkward or something.

Anyway, no. I would not join such a guild and I generally question their reason for existing. Same with any guild that excludes large portions of the playerbase for seemingly arbitrary reasons.

Not in a competitive place, for sure.

I’d hope people have grown up by now and realize games can be played by men or women, and that the opposite sex doesn’t have to be harassed cause they think somehow that will get them in their pants lol.

And horny too, I’ve seen members stumble their “game” over a cute voice or a flirt.

I remember this one guy started singing, talking about how much money he had, crossfit, etc. - all things he never did until we got a certain member :joy:

I would join one if they were good, and progressing, and had a slot for me. Whether or not they allowed women is not something i care much about. Nor have I ever.

I don’t care, as long as I don’t have to listen to thirsty dudes or attention horse(damn censorship) women all day. Hopefully, the classic playerbase is mature enough to have left that behind for the most part, and ideally, anyone who engages in such nonsense(man OR woman) will be given the boot as soon as it becomes a problem.

I don’t see what the problem is. I would not join a gender only guild, but people may do as they wish. As far as I am concerned, people who have a really big problem with and don’t want to interact with the opposite gender are performing a public service if they self-segregate. Less chance I will run into them in group content. :+1:

Haha that’s…

Really sad.:expressionless:

Hmm. You make a lot of assumptions there.

Our guild in TBC had a female officer (and raid tank) and I, as GL, used her presence as a pretext to keep unruly language off of guild chat and our main Ventrilo channel.

She was completely ok with me doing that. Looking forward to her coming back to tank again in Classic.

I think we should just respect everyone’s space and opinions. You want to just have all guys, that’s perfectly okay. I have never cared about being in guilds with men and to be honest I don’t ever verbally talk to anyone in my guild I just text. People need to stop being so offended by everything. Just respect each other.

Back at the end of the Burning Crusade, there was an alliance guild on Crushridge that formed called . It was made by a hardcore group of guys who got fed up with drama constantly popping up from having female players in high end guilds.

Usually said drama will take one of two forms:

  1. Chick is lookin for a sugar daddy to take care of her in game and/or real life. (Seen this one first hand.)
  2. Chick is fine. She isn’t looking for drama. Drama arises cause some guys are just little boys who can’t handle her presence maturely and drama between them, over her, arises. Often involves officers fighting between themselves in an effort to impress her. Results in a few things including chick leaving; others leaving; raid roster imploding; toxic sides forming; guild implosion; officer core implosion and loss of leadership.

Really the best way to handle anything like this is to just encourage more girls and women to play games. The more there are of them, the less they stand out. It becomes normal.

I think it’s interesting that the assumption is that the attention men give women is always unwanted.

I was in a guild where two of the women became hostile toward each other over the affections of the same man. Unfortunately, they were our two best raid healers. Not only did it make a lot of people uncomfortable, but it hurt our progress when one refused to run if the other was in the raid.

Whether it’s harassment or something like that, I can understand why people would want to minimize opportunities for drama. I would not join a guild that had demographic restrictions, but I’m not going to tell other people that they shouldn’t be allowed a choice.

Yes women are treated better than guys in guilds because most guys create this delusion in their head that they have a shot with getting with the women if they do.

I mean I get you’re a dk and all.
But digging this up after three years for casual misandry?
Also - it could have waited till Sunday.

It’s not digging, this thread was from the first page of the search results of Google. :joy:
