What are your thoughts on gender segregation in guilds?

Even though it’s rare, there is a lot to discuss here - for example, what do you think about a “mens only” guild? Is it preventing the change in behavior that guys have when a woman is present? Is it strictly for male-bonding?

What do you think about this? Have you ever been in a gender segregated guild? Would you join one?

BTW I asked a buddy of mine this and he said, “I work with women all day. I just want to hang with some dudes and talk about John Wick or whatever.”

i’ve only seen it once, way back in classic for women only because they were tired of being sexually harrassed back in 2005 for being women.

Hard for me to really judge them considering the circumstances.

I didn’t realize it was really a thing still?

Guys can’t talk like they normally would when a woman is around. It’s easier on everybody just to have dudes who won’t get all offended over certain words or topics.

Edit: I should add, every guild I’ve been in had women, because I don’t care

I wouldn’t join one that had that as a strict policy, no. Especially considering I play WoW with my RL sister. I have wound up in guilds before that didn’t happen to have any women by coincidence though.

I do remember back in the day how some very high level guilds had that rule, for whatever reasons. Doesn’t seem right to me but they can run their guilds however they want.

I can’t imagine anyone who is more emotionally mature than a 16-year old actually wanting this.

edit: (I understand the case of ‘women sick of being harassed’, that’s a real thing. I mean this about the all-guys guild idea.)

There was an all female guild on my server called No Girls Allowed. It died in BC when they finally got the GM to speak in Ventrilo. You can guess why.

That is both funny and extremely sad all at once. xD

Meh … Gambit’s been all female since it’s inception. I’ve never cared what was behind the keyboard, but you have to RP a reasonably credible female in guild chat. Never had any issues with it, and it’s been over 13 years.

Having both genders in a guild only make it stronger and much mote fun. But people need to,get over being offended imo

Every guild is different. There are plenty of ‘co-ed’ guilds with an atmosphere that isn’t toxic to women, you just have to find them. Personally I prefer mixed guilds instead of an enforced gender policy, simply because there are better players and worse players, and gender has nothing to do with that.

“segregation” is such a loaded word. yikes.

Guilds can recruit however they like. I think having a place where you feel safe and comfortable in a world like WoW is really important, and a guild that provides that is a great place to come back to after venturing out into the world and grouping with randos. if being in a guild with only other women or other men is that space then that is great if you find other like-minded people to create that space with. There should be no regulation and legislation over who you are allowed to put into your friends group, your guild, your “people that make me feel at home and comfortable” group.

Whatever rocks their boat. If someone feels that whatever gender is detrimental to the guild in some form or shape, then so be it.

I was in a couple guilds with just way too much drama. I conceived the idea of a single sex guild as being a more calm way to go, since there wouldn’t be as much posturing and so on.

We were very active for five or so years, then things slowly dropped off to the current state of dead that we’ve been in for six or eight years. We did things like weekly fashion shows in the park - there was still a park then. And we just kind of hung out and had fun. I hand picked every person in the guild - I had to like you in some way for you to be invited. And it was limited to about 60 people total.

It was fun, a great guild, and I intend to create it again on Classic.

You’re welcome to join the guild in Classic, Cab. If you want. Bring along Merlot and Champagne if you wish … as long as they’re female characters and can hold a decent conversation.

Meh, whatever people want. Most guilds are mixed but if men or women want their own guild, I don’t care, if that’s as far as it went. Although I could see Blizz interfering if someone complained.

I see Sunday also bleeds into Classic forums as well…

Girls don’t play WoW. Heh

Ill be honest, the guilds I have been in have been a majority of men. Sometimes me being the only female on. I’d love to be in a guild with a nice mix, more balance.
