Agreed, lots shared here for those who are curious to consider. I will add that the negative experiences I’ve had are few and far between to the point where it’s a borderline non-issue (it being the internet and all).
Most everyone I come into contact with gender disparity just doesn’t come up. When conversation does happen, people are generally friendly, helpful and enjoyable to be around, why continue playing otherwise?

I would understand a female only guild because as a female you have to put up with a decent amount of harassment from some guys.
I prefer guilds to just be guilds where people can treat each other as comrades and try to accomplish things together and have a good time while doing it. You can be young, old, male, female, or unknown as long as you are helpful and considerate
Ya talk to me when men face harassment for being men on any level comparable to women in video games…

Nah, don’t be this way. Equality starts with equality. If a bunch of bro’s want to isolate themselves and exclude all women, let them do it. Because how many women are going to want to be in that environment?
Besides, a gender mixed environment is going to provide better opportunities to find the best raiders, so a bro’s only guild will suffer “performance issues”.

better yet…why the hell was it necro’d!? First of all, let me say, that if someone wants form an all boys or girls guild…let them. 2nd of all, EVERY guild I’ve ever been in had men and women in it, and no one harassed anyone. 3rd…most women that I’ve ever played with were WORSE about PC stuff than men were LOL. I’m not a hater. I am not picky about who I play with as long as you aren’t a douche…so this whole segregation idea to me is pretty stupid. But at the end of the day, people have the freedom to choose to play with whoever they want.
Because there are plenty of people with zero social skills when it comes to the opposite gender, behind a computer screen?
I guess I’m too used to being in a guild full of 30+ year old married couples at this point in my life.
I don’t doubt it. I would never join a gender-exclusive guild, because I think variety and different experiences lead to a better group dynamic.
But there are definitely people out there who never progressed past the “Pulling hair shows I like them” stage.
People should be able to make whatever kind of guild they want. If people like it, they’ll ask to join. If they don’t like it, they won’t.

It’s a guild in a videogame ffs. Who cares? Discriminate away. But I will strongly object to DC or Marvel-only guilds. Can’t we all just get along?

You know…it’s sad. In general I love the Marvel characters better than the DC ones, but Batman > all to me too…so I find myself in quite the conundrum.
Don’t really see a problem with having male only or female only guild. They’re private, invite only groups that can make their own rules and create whatever type of environment they want for themselves.
Only time it would be an issue would be if it’s the type of guild that is toxic towards the other gender and spreads that toxicity to players outside and in their guilds. Being a woman hating guild or a man hating guild and treating people of the opposite gender poorly isn’t acceptable. But if it’s just some “bros kickin back with a cold one together” type thing or a “ladies night out” type thing, where people of the same gender just want to relax and hang out with people similar to themselves then I don’t see a problem with it.
I probably wouldn’t join a guild like that myself, but I can see the appeal. There are times IRL when I like to just chill with the guys and there’s times when my girlfriend wants to hang with the ladies. No big deal.
I think you can have whatever sort of guild you want to have. In vanilla I was a guild leader and I made it a family friendly guild with no cursing, no x-rated talk etc. Wasn’t really my deal but there was some nice guild members I wanted to keep happy so I enforced those rules.
When I changed servers on BC I joined a huge gay guild on Proudmore that was very much the opposite of that.
Guilds are basically like a private club. Whatever rules you want to enforce go crazy. As long as you aren’t hurting anyone.
Obviously i’m not going to stop someone from running a guild like that, not that i could even if i wanted to.
Simply making the point there are reasons why an all female guild actually makes sense. Same with having LGBT guilds. Its a place to escape harassment. But with an all male guild what are you escaping, your inability to communicate with the opposite sex??? Pathetic much? You pull that on my server i’ll make sure everyone knows how pathetic you are and never brings you to raids or 5-mans…

While I agree with you, it makes sense for some, your comment was in relation to someone saying you couldn’t have all female guilds while disparaging all male guilds. Which is also a valid statement.
It’s not about protection or ‘escaping’. It’s about choice. Literally something the LGBT community is supposed to espouse. An ‘all male’ guild would be a horrible experiment, but that doesn’t mean they should be prevented from it.
