Don’t worry. This is not an agenda based thread and I am not here to put down Gilgoblin supporters. I’ve heard a lot about the reasons why people want Vulpera and I love goblins myself. However most of the time, I’ve been hearing about the reasons why such and such a race is more likely vs the other. This time, I am really curious to know from people why they would like Gilgoblins to happen regardless of likeliness.
I don’t want them.
I am asking the people who want them to happen.
That this guy said.
They don’t want them either. They think they do but they don’t.
Don’t be so crass. Just because you don’t want them doesn’t mean others don’t.
I don’t want mechagnomes as a allied race but maybe a customisation for current gnomes but oh well, u get what u given I guess
I would accept them provided their only purpose was raising my fishing level.
I want them because the alternative, Vulpera, would eradicate the Alliance.
All the raiders have left. Leave the kawaii-lovers to us.
Underwater mutant Goblins who throw harpoons at people? Sounds great.
The reasons I want Gilgoblins is for the reasons as follows:
-
I absolutely love goblins. They are my favorite race. I love the aesthetic. I love the style. Just about everything about goblins resonates well with me and nearly all of my characters are goblins.
-
Because I love the idea of small viscious mischievous anklebiters. If they gain intelligence on par with goblins then the idea of aquatic societies, aquatic tech and sea based trade would be really cool.
-
They also have very beautiful textures glowing eyes and glowing teeth as well as beautiful tattoos and fins. Just imagine if these things can be druids. The sea forms could be amazing.
-
I like niche races. When playing a race like blood elf or orc, chances are that the neat mog you’ve come up with has been seen dozens of times. Too many of something results in its loss of value.
And other than being a short race, Vulpera doesn’t have all these specific traits that I fell in love with when it comes to goblins. I’ve been hoping for a race that shares similar traits to that of goblins for a while now.
They don’t want them either. They think they do but they don’t.
This person is trolling. Just ignore him. Gilgoblins have been discussed in the Goblin discord since long before Vulpera even existed and there is a lot of people who genuinely want them. The player base for goblins is just small to begin with.
I love the idea of them greatly because I’ve loved Goblins since even before we could play them. After Cata and my little mean green machines came out, I dove headlong into them and found myself over the moon with them. I really looked and saw a race of cunning and genuinely loyal (to the right people) folks and was pleased. When I got deeper into the Swamp of Sorrows and realized there was a subspecies I was floored and clamored to learn more. Granted I hadn’t realized they were artificially made into fishy folk, thinking they came from beyond the seas East of the EK but hey, that just made learning more that much more great for me.
To see them over time kinda grow from their addled selves to fairly rational people by Legion made me smile. Seeing plenty of Goblin RPers make and even petition for Gilblins ICly to join the Horde got me honestly hoping for them. Just look at the artwork people have made or commissioned (Myself included) for their Gilblins. The idea of them has evolved far past the standard Goblin with fins, to having a rainbow of fish types and other marine life to paint a truly interesting picture. I’ve seen people come up with all sorts of headcannons for them and have seen a player made culture sprout. The Unshackled in 8.2 will probably make that pot of ideas explode and I greatly anticipate the awesomeness that comes from it.
So the baseline of why I want them boils down to I love how they have inspired so much from the players who want them and I want to see that inspiration grow and be rewarded.
Thank you both for delivering honest and constructive answers to me about this without trying to put people down looking at asmo
Just because a race isn’t as popular doesn’t mean that it doesn’t deserve to be heard. Who knows. Well have to see what lies ahead in Nazjatar.
Short and sassy with attitude. Goblin female fits this description perfectly. Add a penchant for destruction it is awesome. Goblins have this and since allied races are meant to be similar in nature and always the same racial type, I welcome Gilgoblins.
In my secret underground lair, I’m developing a “Gilgoblin Assault Rifle”, much too large for Goblins to use but some of the larger races will be able to use it (I’ll make millions!). I need a steady supply of prime “Gilgoblins” to use as ammo, explosive, frangible and armor piercing. Please “Blizzard”, help me complete my life work. I don’t want to use regular Goblins, my bros. Dwarfs are too fat, and Gnomes explode into mush in the chamber, so squishy.
Reminds me of that gun that Gallywix would arm his hobogoblins with. Hobogoblins would have the same problem as dwarves though.
Just thought of another reason I want GIlblins, though it is a bit silly. An aquatics expert for the Gob Squad. I know they’ve been the same core team since Cata but they are the best Black Ops team I think in the whole of the Horde, just look at their track record. Even the setbacks in Nazmir, ones that would see most troops get slaughtered by either the Naga in the sea and on the coast the first time or Night Elven and Worgen Trackers in a low visibility environment where you are at an extreme disadvantage, they came out not just alive but swinging. So adding the edge of someone who brings in the fact they can breath underwater, likely knows the waterways of plenty of places, can speak Nerglish thus act as a diplomat or diversion when dealing with other Aquatic folk, and more just feels right to me.
Honestly, GilGoblins wouldn’t bother me so much if there wasn’t such an absence of lore and history behind them. It would also be nice if I saw a vision of them from their supporters that wasn’t just “Goblins! But underwater!”
Plus, I guess I’m not fond of them joining the Horde because Blizz has a history of not writing actual Goblins very well (showing us little more than Greed filled lemmings, thanks in no small part to Wix’s influence) … and since Grapplehammer is one of the few Goblin’s with talent that seems on Wix’s side, I shudder to think what that would mean for the GilGoblin Allied race (should it exist). I genuinely think its possible they might dilute the Racial Fantasy of the Goblin race, rather than enhancing it in any way (because there is too many similarities to Core Gobs, and not enough differences).
Vulpera … I won’t say they’re particularly interesting; but at least they don’t come with a lot of these pitfalls (and they would see more than a fragment of a fragment of players playing them). There is a danger in an Allied Race being TOO unique certainly, but there is absolutely a danger in an Allied Race being too similar to the core race as well (especially one as deeply neglected as Gobs currently are).
We need a good aquatic race to be playable! Gilgoblins and Ankoans would totally fit the theme of 8.2. Remember, they said no new AR in 8.2, not 8.2.5. That’s that clever lawyer-speak at work.
Hardly anyone plays goblin… what makes blizz thinks people will play blue goblins?
