Having fun RPing a curmugeonly Swarmkeeper Ranger in 5E. He is a grizzled old monster hunter, think Geralt and maybe the Hound but not handsome. His swarm is a group of bright neon fairies with names like, “Moonwillow” and “Starshine.” He also has two fairies named Cory and Trevor so he can say, “Cory, Trevor, smokes let’s go” and they pull out his pipe and matches. It’s been fun.
I’ve been playing a lot of FFXIV and while I haven’t been RPing in it at all yet, as I go through the MSQ I have been doing a lot of thinking about who my character is and how he would react to certain events.
Little to nothing right now. I’m pretty much done with game RP and WoW as a setting.
Been trying to just RP my own ideas and settings or make ones with other people, but it’s hard to find people who have the time or drive to. I just want to have fun, creative characters and writing experiences, and not be burdened by a video game. I don’t even play games anymore.
Anyone else interested in stuff like this? Like making up worlds, premises and characters? Because it’s a lot of fun.
Similarly I am RPing as a over-worked, underpaid and over-stressed educator in a school district where the emphasis is on brute forcing things back to normal at the expense of the staff (and the kids).
It’s sort of like being a mid-level officer in a big guild where you have to do everything but no one listens to you and the core officers claim all your work as their own and then it’s all your fault if something they do messes up.
Shifting to Kurk’hano as my main for RP has opened the door to engaging in a character who practices magic more heavily and actually has enough knowledge in it that he can be considered an ‘expert’ in the various forms of it since he likely often had to plan to counter it when he faced it.
The primary difference being that instead of being a mage, priest or warlock he’s a druid and can sometimes maul enemy casters as a large teal tiger.
One thing I’ve found myself getting really into is GTA RP, it’s so much more hardcore than other forms of RP so I can’t really get into doing it myself, but there is an ENTIRE genre of content creation that makes up these amazing scenarios all on GTA RP servers.
Including people creating actual Saw style horror stories that they put the server through and it’s fascinating. I’ve spent far too much time watching these darn videos.
My friend was really into GTA online but got banned after taking advantage of an exploit and was like, honestly I needed this or I would have not quit. Yet the stories are pretty wild. I don’t know if I could do a Saw style thing but might be fun to pop in and just be like, time to RP as someone that lives in San Diego, better go to my job and hope I get a good review on my annual.
Otherwise I went to the Brewfest benefit bash and Juspion spent the night perusing the different booths and was introduced to the world of “cosmo-metics” and is now really into make up and I need to draw some artwork of him being absolutely stunning and gorgeous. (in juno birch voice)
I’ve been gradually building working through multiple soft plots for Gotosh as well as my best friends character(s). For Gotosh the most immediate one right now are little things to gain a new ghost animal form. Since I don’t like the mentality of just “I say it I have it”, I wont him to go through different trials of understanding and study to earn this big piece of shamanism. He lost ability to use his ghost wolf form that he earned a long time ago due to another plot in the background. Now , he’s working on earning the favor of the deer spirit. So a lot of events that I see, or interactions I have, may have motivation into building his story. It also walks along side his general work into getting close with the element of the Wilds.
So if I see an event that might be able to add another inch to getting a step closer to making his Wilds connection and deeper and get a better understanding of the deer I do so! So far he made his biggest break through last month, but now I’m waiting to schedule a one on one RP with someone who is a devout follower of Apa’ro, or Malorne, to better understand what he means as a Wild God as a deer, and what his connection is to nature.
He also recently studied with Elderhorn caretakers and breeders and he already has some reoccuring history with deer and deer spirits that happened through out RP that is pretty interesting. So it’s almost like this was meant to be!
I’m really excited for him to eventually get a brand new ghost form. And I love working up to earn it. It feels so much more special and it lets me interact with other people.
With role play over all, I haven’t really been out as publically as I use to be. Maybe I’m not feeling too hot IRL over some things, perhaps I’m sad that so many people I loved seeing just jumped ship. I don’t really have much engagement to do my stories with lately so it’s hard to work up the want to go to Orgrimmar or seek people to do things with. I’ve mostly just been enjoying running old content and collecting things.
But I did have a lovely little scene with a friend who came back an orc who was a clown but has no memory of why he was even there. It was intriguing and fun and felt really good to feel that sorta thing!
Since my liberating departure from WoW, nothing online, though I’ve been going through NWN yet again. Also playing a typical rogue in a 3.5 game, and am currently plotting out an Avatar campaign for whenever that kickstarter starts going out, and I think I’ve got some exciting stuff planned out.
