So it’s been a while, what are the results from this change? How has it helped you as a company catch bots, are you now catching more bots than ever? Cause it seems like to me this was just another inconvenience. All these gold sellers have to do is invest in hardware…Thanks.
I’d be willing to bet that it’s probably only like 1% of multiboxers that actually invest in hardware solutions to the input broadcasting software policy change. There might be a few who do, but the majority who are doing it are just continuing to use the software while ‘claiming’ to have changed to hardware. Do not fall for their tricks!
0 effect. The bots just use it anyway. They are already breaking rules and don’t care… Reduce legitimate multiboxing slightly but not much.
I suspect the multi boxing decision had more to do with resource gathering in retail since nodes do not auto despawn when used
That’s a nice hat you have there. Is that tin or aluminum foil?
they still have to be manually reported it seems
What is so conspiracy theory-ist about my reply that would warrant a tin foil hat? It is doubtful that a large amount of former/current multiboxers turned to hardware solutions after the new policy update. It is more likely that they just continue to use their input broadcasting software to control multiple characters at once and just say that they have switched to hardware solutions instead. Granted, SOME have probably switched to using hardware solutions, but it is most definitely a small minority of players that have done that or have the means to do that.
It’s not a stretch or a conspiracy theory to say that multiboxers continue to use input broadcasting software to control multiple characters at once.
Well, I don’t know about overall results but I saw an…umm…interesting thing yesterday. I started a nooblet on Bloodsail to check out the server, thinking that maybe a roleplay server might be a better fit for me than some other servers.
So, in the orc starting zone, just in a short space of time (maybe a half hour), I saw 2 “batches” of multi-box characters created, all with long jibberish names. Couldn’t really count em as they were standing on top of each other but I’d say at least 5 or more. I noticed that the first “batch” had disappeared when I went back to turn in a quest and didn’t think too much about it at the time.
But then I saw the second bunch heading in the opposite direction of the questing area and got curious so I followed just to see where they were going. lol.
The whole gaggle of geese went up a “hidden” trail and disappeared before I got up there. I noticed there’s a cliff there and goes down to the water with a short swim to Ratchet. No idea what a level-1 gaggle of characters would do in Ratchet but I thought it very odd.
It’s a great way to get the Ratchet FP without all the running. I don’t multibox but I’ve often taken my troll or orc alts to Ratchet this way. Then I die and res back in the start area.
Ahh. That makes a bit of sense then, I guess. Thanks.
Blizzard flat out lied when they said they did this to stop bots.
Bots uses these things: LUA Unlockers + fly/teleport hacking. Bots do NOT use multiboxing software.
There are 3 main bot programs used by upwards of a million accounts. All 3 programs would be halted in their tracks if Blizzard simply did this: https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/fly-hacking-lua-unlockers-vast-amount-of-bots-why-doesnt-blizzard-not-fix-this
Blizzard is not doing those things because they do NOT want to remove bots. There are over 500,000 bot accounts, around 25% of all Classic paying accounts. Blizzard banned multiboxing software as a ploy to buy them time to allow bots as long as possible.
Blizzard is not honoring their commitment to fair gameplay as owed to their customers. Their integrity is trash.
By all means, you should be reporting every multiboxer you believe is using software to broadcast. The gaming company has methods in place to check. Don’t be afraid to report them.
I’m skeptical whether there’s been a noticeable change. Considering the number of posts from people who supported the new policy, it feels like they would have come back here to gloat once they noticed any improvement. I haven’t seen any posts like that.
It feels more like this change was made as an easy scapegoat to appease the torch and pitchfork crowd. I have no evidence for that and normally wouldn’t make that kind of statement but Blizzards handling of the change pissed me off. No warning at all and suddenly I get in game mail telling me to stop my exploitative play. Not to mention threatening to clean out my inventory so I don’t benefit from my cheating. Not even an acknowledgement I may not have heard about the change. Just BAM! Cheater! Pretty douche baggy customer service from my perspective as opposed to some kind of well thought out adjustment.
That sounds like a warning to me. There was no punishment. But they warned you of what the punishment would be if you didn’t stop. What’s the problem? They didn’t say please?
