My favorites are the Darnassian Nightsabre from The Argent Tournament and the Flameward Hippogryph from cata. Not a lot of people have them I think. Don’t see them too often.
the blue fox
the alliance vicious sabercats imo are amazing, same with the shadowpan tigers
I quite like the Sandy Nightsaber, especially with my Vulpera characters, and I rarely see anyone riding it.
I feel like the Champion’s Treadblade is pretty neat.
Maybe the Core Hound from the 10th anniversary
The yaks. Not the Grand Expidition Yak. The smaller ones are so cute. Their tail wags in a circle when you’re falling. So floofy.
the mechagnome racial mount is also a banger.
I like the epic skeletal horses the Forsaken got in vanilla. I wish Bliz would update old assets. Of course, how would a small indie company like Bliz make time for that.
I don’t know if it’d be considered underrated, but I’ve always loved the basic Felsaber for DH. There is an unending amount of great looking rare mounts, but when I’m on my DH I can’t help but use the Felsaber.
One of my favorites that I usually don’t see being used very often.
Still love my Frostsaber.
I ground forever to get mine, then they changed it to take about a week.
Well, it is a ground mount.
The most underrated are the donkey mounts.
In specifically trying to go with the theme of ‘underrated’ mount, here are a few I’d mention.
- Hearthsteed
– This is actually a really nice mount but is rarely seen because, presumably, it’s an easy freebie.
- Golden Gryphon
– This simple starter mount is still one of the best and most iconic mounts in the game.
- Wildseed Cradle
– This is one of the coolest unpopular mounts I know of. Very underrated mount.
This is also one of my absolute favorite mounts. I use it as a sleigh on my Santa Claus character, but it’s also in my favorites rotation so all my characters ride it periodically.
I love the Hearthsteed, too.
For Alliance, I love the Honeyback Harvester and the Ironclad Frostclaw.
The Island Thunderscale also looks like cartoons from my childhood.
The Meat Wagon is like my third favorite mount.
And for the sake of nostalgia, it’s Netherdrakes and the Mechano-hog.
For functional usage, the Red Flying Cloud is my favorite, but I really wish they’d go ahead and give us a permanent Hallow’s End broom mount.
Hippogryphs are two of my favorite mounts–the BFA prepatch mount, and the Legion secret mount.
Alpacas are super cute.
The Legion mage disc mount (aka [Dalaran Manhole Cover of Fiery Wrath]) as well as the similar disc mounts added in SL, because:
- It’s super low profile and will let you fit through any space
- It’s totally silent
- Rides smooth
- It doesn’t look stupid for ground riding unlike 95% of flying mounts
- It lets you idle around NPCs, mailboxes, etc without blocking anything or eating half of everybody’s screen
- It’s neither gaudy nor boring
The MoP disc mounts aren’t terrible but for me their giant weird looking cloud drags its score down a lot.
Before that was added though, any of the cat mounts based on the original Nightsaber model were great. Similarly quiet, low-profile, etc, basically the Cadillac of ground mounts.
