What Are The Hero Talents You Hate?

I deeply dislike three Hero Talent Trees, both for fantasy reasons rather than gameplay reasons.

Rider of the Apocalypse - I don’t like it that we summon big name lore NPCs. A glyph to replace the Horsemen with some generic NPCs would be much appreciated.

Pack Leader - I like the idea of Pack Leader, but I hate the execution. I think one of the main things about Hunters is that you get to choose your pets, and Pack Leader gives you a bunch of “pets” that you never chose. Every Pack Leader has a boar, a bear and a wyvern. Worse than that, they all have the same boar, the same bear and the same wyvern. We all renting Rexxar’s pets or something lol

Mountain Thane - I like the lightning stuff, it reminds me of Thorim. I just don’t like the Dwarven theme.

I don’t hate any of them. Hate is a strong word that shouldn’t be used to loosely.

But one of the hero talents trees I don’t like is the one where Hunters get Black Arrow. I think it’s called Shadowrunner? Something. It makes your hunter into a discount Sylvannus.

Dislike anything that gives me an extra button instead of adding effects or replacing an existing ability.

I play a BUNCH of specs, and have key mapping set up in a way I like. Trying to crowbar an extra ability that potentially two specs need to use and thus both have on the same key is a huge PITA. Especially if one spec is dps and one is healer, they are prob not going to have the same keys open to use.

Both Sentinel and Dark Ranger, because I have no interest in my MM hunter getting shoved into either overly specific lame theme.

… I don’t actually know what any hero talents do…

I just put in the right ones.

Dark Ranger. That was the one.

Rexxar’s pets do bother me on a “Am I making an MMO character of my own or picking a MOBA hero?” level.

Paladin lightsmith being built around a temporary weapon enchant has felt a bit annoying.

I love the feel of frostfire mage, no notes.

Beyond that, I quickly start getting into “I’m fuzzy how much of my opinion is about the hero talents or the class in vgeneral” and I haven’t really tinkered around enough to have formed strong emotions.

Slayer. I wanted Blademaster. Aside from that, I don’t like the gimmick.

It’s whole gameplan for single target is keeping Arms’ juggernaut stacks from falling off. To do that optimally you’ll need to ration out your Sudden Death stacks, only using them when absolutely necessary. Best way to do that is to use a Weak Aura, something I am vehemently against.

I don’t hate Weak Auras. It’s moreso the fact that the buffs I’m required to track are lost in a sea of heals, dots, and other buffs in my top right part of the screen.

Would be nice to choose which buffs I could track in the combat bar in the middle of my screen, but instead we got the cooldown manager.

Lame.

lmao.

I think a word is just as strong as what you mean it to be.

Like, when I say I hate Rider of the Apocalypse, I mean that it displeases me and I wish it was different. I changed my DK from Unholy to Frost because I didn’t want to take it and also I didn’t want to be a vampire.

And when I say I hate Demon Hunters, I mean I hate Demon Hunters with the white hot intensity of a billion exploding suns.

Different feelings, but they can be described with the same word as long as there’s more stuff said to give it context

Oracle and Archon. :grinning:

Down with the button fetishists!

All in all, the hero talents just feels like the latest wave of borrowed power. Along with them while being a “choice” inevitably meant that one would always be superior to the other depending on specs.

Would have preferred class skins.

I only play Resto and Feral druid right now, but I dislike all three trees they get. Neither of Feral’s feels remotely satisfying: Wildstalker gives a new proc that you have to manage your rotation around and Claw just makes one button slightly stronger with almost no visual change. Resto’s force me to play the two types of Resto Druid I want literally nothing to do with: Wildstalker promotes Catweaving and Grove promotes casting treants to do my job for me, and to top it off, both are entirely passive. Wildstalker is apparently not even viable for raids.

I played holy and disc priest a bit in season 1, and I was shocked by how satisfying their hero talents are. Voidweaver gives you a visually and audibly satisfying button with a burst window, Oracle gives you three (and a half) new buttons on rotation, and Archon buffs Halo to the point of being a useful new tool and promotes Apotheosis. It felt like a slap on the face.

Totemic is awful. Lava Lash + sunder is fun, but the totem is nothing. Stupid ahh tree.

Spellslinger is boring. Farseer for elemental anyway is annoying because of primordial wave. Riders of the Apocalypse is chaotic and messy. Grove Warden is annoying as all get out. Flameshaper is extremely awkward and doesn’t mesh with the devastation rotation at all.

Damn, you nailed it. I know colossus isn’t as good ST for Arms but I just enjoy the BONK of it more than having to track slayer stuff and sudden death timings. Kind of sad the passive hero tree takes more effort than the ability button tree, assuming I am playing the BONK spec right but I seem to be since I do more damage with it than slayer.

For shaman, I don’t really enjoy either Totemic offerings as resto or enhance. I like set it and forget it totems, not having to worry about repositioning. I go farseer as resto and stormbringer as enhance. Stormbringer is just fantastic as enhance. Love it.

Mountain Thane: Storm Bolts / Storm Shield choice node.

One choice increases the cooldown of Storm Bolt.

The other choice does nothing if you don’t talent for Intervene.

It’s a bad choice.

Weirdly, I have never had an emotional reaction to a hero talent, probably because I am not a preteen girl, oh and also I guess I am dead inside

And this is exactly why I don’t want to permanently rearrange keybinds to accommodate active hero talent abilities. I don’t even know if crap like Engulf will continue to exist in a year.

I really dislike the priest hero talents, one is tied to a spell I don’t like to use, another turns the specs into a tiny burst dmg window spec, and the final one borderline requires a weakaura to use well.

I don’t hate any of them, but sometimes find the one I chose is the less meta, like Stormbringer on enhance shaman and Elune’s Chosen on Balance Druid. I’m at the point where I don’t want to switch, so say “you know what? I’m comfy here.” And it works out fine.

(I’m at the point I don’t really know what’s meta anymore tbh. I just want to play the game and not switch things up every five minutes.)
