Clefthooves are sturdier as they have Blood of the Rhino which gives them an extra 10% armor and 20% increase of healing received (so the Ferocity leech and mend pet). World bosses, however, are raid level mobs and it would be difficult, if not impossible, to keep any pet alive against them and are not really doable by a 117. If you are referring to rares (silver dragon around the portrait), you should be able to take those on with liberal use of mend pet and maybe the odd Exhilaration. Elites (gold dragon around the portrait) are tougher to take down as they are roughly equal to dungeon mobs. There is also a possibility that what you are facing is using attacks that pets canāt block well.
As for the second pet for Animal Companion, it does not provide any abilities that I know of so you can use any pet you want for that.

Clefthooves are the go to tank pet as poster above mentioned, but you have to be BM to use them as theyāreexotic pets. Others are decent as well, but clefthooves just have to much going for them with the healing boost, armor boost, damage reduction, and are ferocity so you get leech and lust for haste boost. Scalehides are decent tanks for non BM specs, being ferocity for leech, also have a damage reduction.
Second pet you have if you took animal handler doesnāt matter so much what type. The second pet only uses kill command and standard melee attacks, so you can use any pet as second.

Scalehides are the non-exotic version of Clefthooves, being similar, but ultimately weaker on scale. If your petās not tanking, then itās more advisable to use a Spirit Beast for heals and enemy cleanse. For me at least, I wouldnāt worry too badly about keeping your pet alive, as long as youāre diligent and careful with pet management.

Thank you all
I got the clefthoove (wow getting back to WOD area was hard⦠went to panda land and then that weird underwater campfire? I Am still not sure if I am still all here / saw what I actually sawā¦)
But now I have it WOW is it tanky. This is SOOOO much better
Thank you all
And I will try and get a healer/cleanser pet ASAP! Those sound cool too!
For those, you are looking for a Spirit Beast for BM or a Stag/Crane for non-BM. It would also be good to tame a Bat or Nether Ray for if you find yourself in a dungeon without anyone that can cast some form of Bloodlust/Heroism. Note that only the Spirit Beast has the heal and that there is no Exotic pet that is Ferocity with a soothe.
Im loving scalehides, cats and spidersā¦but mostly for leech.
Wish they wouldnt make that sort of thing pet specific and let us choose

5 Pets I recommend that I consistently keep as my 5 active pets:
Spirit Beast - Your trusty BM companion, this one will keep you healed, give you a damage reduction buff, stealth, and allow you to purge an enemy of one magical spell every 10 seconds. This one is the heavy hitter for BM
Devilsaur - Great for your BM needs mostly PvE but can be used PvP, leech, Mortal Strike, and the ability to āheroā gives you a well rounded pet that will come in handy when you need it.
Hyena - PvP pet in the cunning category (Masterās Call, Speed increase) that helps you with mortal strike. This is my go-to when Iām survival and PvPing.
Cat - PvE pet that functions like the Devilsaur (Leech, and hero) when youāre not BM specced, but has stealth if you find yourself needing a stealth pet (Sitting a base as SV or Marks etcā¦) DOES NOT HAVE MORTAL STRIKE (so this is the fallback on this pet if using solely for PvP)
Worm - This is a BM only and specific for Base sitting nodes in RBGs / BGs against sub rogues. The ability to AOE by burrowing a flag when shadow dueled is crucial when you get locked down.
