I’ll start with what I don’t miss:
I definitely don’t miss the lack of stables. I don’t miss not being able to tame devilsaurs and other neat beasts. I DEFINITELY don’t miss the damage pets used to take from AOEs.
Surprisingly, however, I do miss having to feed and maintain my pet’s happiness and I REALLY miss loyalty levels. I miss Eyes of the Beast. I miss rare spawns being rares with long timers and hunting for them. I miss having to tame various animals to learn pet skills to teach to other pets (As well as learning individual pet skills from a trainer). I miss how unique the pets used to be. Now we have a LOT of pets, but none of them feel unique outside of appearance.
Maybe this is a relatively unpopular opinion, but I really miss those little aspects of the old builds that forced you to micromanage your pet and keep an eye on its loyalty. It made the pets feel more important to me. I think that’s definitely one of the aspects I miss the most in comparison to the newer builds of WoW and the old. Felt more like RPG aspects.
What are some of the things you miss? What are some of the things you do not miss? I’m sure some of you have the complete opposite opinion of me and I’m curious to see what everyone thinks.

I miss Hunter’s Mark for all specs. It was useful in PvP to go against rogues and feral druids so that they could be seen in stealth. It also let opponents in battlegrounds know that they were spotted. The challenge tames in MoP were designed for you to keep the pet visible with Hunter’s Mark.
I also miss Steady Shot for all specs. I normally hate cast time abilities but Steady Shot was usable while moving and was used when you had nothing else to use. This filled the downtime nicely unlike Serrated Shot/Dire Beast while are instant, have a cooldown, and can’t fill the downtime without high crit and specific talents that doesn’t even seem possible in BfA.
I also miss pets with raid buffs and a battle rez. More pets were usable in dungeons as you could use them to provide buffs that were missing.
I agree with your “don’t miss” section. One of the biggest reasons I play BM is to tame the Exotic beasts. I also like the amount of stable slots we have although it is still not enough. However, I don’t miss needing to buy ammo and I don’t miss having the feed the pet. I am also glad that we have Trap Launcher.

Trap launcher’s another good one, but I didn’t mind arrows and I didn’t mind the feeding pets thing. When it comes to buying arrows, buying them in and of themselves didn’t bother me, but the bag space did. I’d be alright if they brought that back – if only we got an extra bag space specifically for a quiver. TBH I’d love quivers in general that are displayed on your character with two styles: One on back or one on hip.
I miss survival hunters, and having three unique, ranged specs.
I do not miss mana, not one bit.

Swapping Pet Specs
Aspect of the Beast (Chameleon is the worst thing to happen to this Class)
The Unity we had, it’s been a few years already.
Having both ranged and melee weapons equipped at the same time

I really miss the WoD talent Adaptation, it was such a perfect end game talent for BM. It made our pets so strong, unlike today in which our pets feel super weak in comparison.
I also missed all the limitations Hunter pets had back in the day however. With how few slots you had, and needing to use a slot to tame beasts to learn new abilities and how you needed to feed them and level pets alongside you. It did feel like you and your pet were intimately linked like it should be. Your beast isn’t some bodyguard NPC it was a living thing you needed to take care of for you to be at your strongest.
That being said I do not miss the dead zone, I remember hating that so much. Not a terribly big fan of ammo either but I could tolerate it for immersion’s sake.

I do not miss having to stutter step. Allowing hunters to auto attack on the move was a good day for me.
I do not miss mana. Don’t @me, I’m grounded in that position.
I do miss the talent that allowed us the ability to translate 30% of our stamina into Attack Power.
Some times, not always, but once in a great while…I miss Hit Rating.

I miss Chimera Shot, Kill Shot, Tranquilizing Shot, Black Arrow (pre-Legion version), Frost trap, Narrow Escape, Entrapment, Exotic Munitions, Scare Beast and how Barrage only fired ‘targeted’ shots at the enemies in front of you, not this ‘spray’ of shots we have today.
I don’t miss the Legion ‘Vulnerability’ mechanic for MM hunters, Sidewinders, the deadzone, among other things.

for me its “pet specs” i like being able to have that one pet that can do anything (tank/dps stuff). i miss when the pet AI didnt feel like it was made stupid (like couldnt go through the first door of uldir) or just took the long way around and pulled everything in the dungeon. i miss feeding the pet. i miss most of all was when our pet went invincible during “beastial wrath” (doesnt get killed by elites/bosses)

kill shot and hunters mark, back in vanilla days, we were considered the counter to classes that could stealth.

Oddly, I kinda miss Volley, especially when they gave it a brand new and awesome animation and then promptly completely removed the ability.
I miss BRF-era Survival, quite a lot actually. I miss HFC-era 4-piece MM. I miss knockback Explosive Trap (ya, I know it’s a PvP talent, I’m talking about in PvE). I miss the WoD-era pet buffs and Lone Wolf buffs. I miss Eyes of the Beast (but essentially nothing else about the Vanilla pet system). I miss WoD-era glyphed Cheetah.
I miss being able to change my pet’s specs, and being able to use the pets that I liked the looks of and had a history with, instead of being forced into pets based on the utility of their family abilities and their hard-locked spec. I miss challenge tames, like the ones added with Firelands in Cata. I miss Misdirection working like Tricks of the Trade, where it was a buff put on the target for 30 seconds that didn’t activate until you next dealt damage, then triggered the standard 7-second threat transfer (noooooo idea why they changed MD and not Tricks). I miss being able to have effectively 100% uptime on Camo (and not having to burn a talent row to get it). I miss 2-charge Deterrence. I miss killing blows reducing the CD of Exhilaration by large chunks. I miss Tranq Shot.
I do not miss ammo, the dead zone, pet leveling, weapon skill leveling, pet loyalty, pet happiness, the hidden autoshot cast time, the resultant Steady Shot macro spam during TBC, Aspect of the Wild (nature resist version, where one hunter got the short end of the stick and didn’t get to use Hawk for that fight while the rest did), or having to farm up melee weapons, 20 second cast taming that zilched your armor.
But most of all, what I miss? Having a dev team that listens and gives a ****.

Most of my views on this are in alignment with Drakaga, Xaedys, Natsuren, and Kabbie on this. MoP-WoD was the peak for the class. Legion made a lot of mistakes. BFA fixed some of them but not enough. It’s still better than Vanilla/BC to me. As much as some people look back on those times, and Hunters really were fun for the time, it just doesn’t hold up and much of what is gone from then is removed for good reason (e.g. minimum range).

You aren’t forced to use 2 pets as BM
I miss. Scare beast, deterrence having 2 charges, tranq shot, post haste lasting 8 seconds, viper sting(mana drain), being able to kite efficiently vs melee before they became speed racers, i miss pet talent trees, and being able to bring more than 5 choices of pets in arena, i miss mend pet glyph to get pets out of cc, i miss being able pets having the bc version of pet stances aggressive and defensive the correct way, beastial wrath making you immune to stun and fears 100% like in bc, i miss having nearly 0 gcds instead of 4-6 in pvp b4 doing any damage…beastial wrath, aspect of wild, murder of crows, dire hawk, maledict, dire basalisk…thats like 10 seconds just to set up lmao…feels clunky on a fast pace spec, original volley, hunters mark keeping rogues out of stealth, i miss rogues having lots of cc, but them being squishy, and not doing 17mil dps, also other melee not having perma uptime and 9000 charges, healers nearly doing my damage, and off healers having the same dps or better output than me, and casters being tankier than tanks…rant over

Things I don’t miss:
- Templates in Legion
- Vulnerable in Legion
- Standing still constantly to cast Aimed Shot in Legion
- Legion MM
Things I miss:
- Killshot
- Killshot
- Killshot
- Killshot
and lastly
I suppose I should make a list of things I miss almost as much:
- AoE that worked intuitively (you know, when there are only 2 targets (WTF?!?))
- Scare Beast
- Aspect of the Beast
- Aspect dancing
- Powershot (controllable knock back and burst. That’s what a 3s cast time 30s CD shot should look like!)
- Dancing Tiger, Hidden Chimera (DTHC)
- Disengage on a 10s CD with DTHC
- Glyph of Disengage that sent you to the moon
- Glyphs that gave us agency, variability and customization (lol Azerite)
- Deterrence on a 1m CD with DTHC
- Deterrence with 2 charges that made the ability actually useful in PvP
- Ice Trap (you know, Tar Trap back when it worked as intended)
- Explosive Trap that works reliably.
- Lock and Load going off more than once a year (some variability in the rotation)
- Concussive Barrage (some AoE control)
- Silencing Shot (anti caster control. I’m OK with the current version in theory, but its now just a 3s interrupt on a 24s CD. SUCH BAD TUNING IN COMPARISON TO ALL OTHER SPECS)
- Tranq Shot (anti burst/bubble/etc.)
- Chimera Shot (INSTANT mobile burst)
- Chimera Shot’s interaction with Stings (such a nice combo)
– Viper’s Sting (the one that drained mana -> caster control)
– Scorpid Sting (yummy Disarm and melee control)
– Serpent Sting (nice burst)
– The choice and skill inherent in the above 3 options!
- Baseline abilities not being talents
– Hunter’s Mark (all PvPer’s are automatically down a talent tier because this is a talent, regardless of its DPS output)
– Camouflage (you know, the one that was effectively permanent)
– Effectively permanent Camouflage
– Aspect of the Cheetah (The real one. lol 3 min CD, lol Trailblazer)
– Careful Aim (the one that just gave a bonus to crit and didn’t make our regular Aimed Shots feel weak)
– Scatter Shot (why can’t I use this in PvE?)
– God damn Stings can’t even be taken, regardless of the fact that they are less useful than previously
TL;DR: I miss the mobile bursty control spec with rich utility and situational abilities I enjoyed for years and years of my life. BfA seemed like it was going to be at least the mobile bursty control spec, even if it was lacking in situational abilities (like most current specs). Unfortunately it failed miserably, lacking effective mobility AND control, and no burst at the end, where it matters most. So I guess I also miss having a Dev Team that gives a crap about us.
