Why should one tank have to worry about their defense on all their gear to become crit immune while another just throws on 1 measley rune?
Plus they are improving gear so why couldn’t they put defense on shaman gear?

Because they’re making the game up as they go
Nobody actually believed them when they said this was in the works “years prior” did they?
Rogue tank was created over someones lunch break when they realized they had to come up with more Rogue runes last second.
In PvP right now my enhance sham destroys paladins… this will likely get even worse in P2 when we have access to stormstrike and windfury.
Paladins have no shot vs sham tankiness with earth rune, and purge spam of buffs and seals.
Just doing some automation here.
Do you even understand what shaman problems were prior to sod? The ENTIRE problem with the class is that we were forced to go resto if we wanted to be brought to raids. That keeps the same core problem intact. It did literally nothing to solve our largest issue
Regardless of any core design issues enhancement has, we also have skill rank issues. Some of our main damage abilities, such as Flame Shock and Flametongue, are super low rank and underpowered right now because of the cap being 25.
Flametongue current rank is from level 18, next rank is level 26, so it’s super weak. At level 26 its damage goes up by 60%. The current rank of Rockbiter was learned at level 24. This makes it especially painful using Flametongue right now instead of Rockbiter in order to keep threat under control.
Flame Shock current rank is from level 18, next rank is level 28, so it’s also super weak. Its damage nearly doubles when we get the next rank at 28. Because the current rank of Earth Shock was learned at level 24, right now it’s more damage to just ignore Flame Shock and instead spam Earth Shock, but again we cannot do that due to threat issues.
Unless we get a rune which converts some percentage of attack power into spell damage, we’ll be at the mercy of how our spell ranks line up (or don’t line up) with the max level for each phase.
I know everyone suffers from this issue to some extent, but it’s more pronounced on caster classes that don’t have prominent rune skills to spam. Since a lot of enhancement’s damage comes (or should come) from spells, this is a big contributor in keeping us significantly below the rest of the melee.
Enhance:
I feel that shaman will remain one of the easiest 5 and 10 man tanks but be far outclassed on most 40 man bosses. I think that’s fine.
As far as enhance DPS goes, it will be low unless we get some decent runes on our other slots, and a rune to reduce SS to 6 seconds from 20.
Ele:
Will scale decently in PvE unless overload is severely nerfed. Overload WILL be nerfed because of pvp but how much it will be nerfed remains to be seen.
Resto:
Healing Rain, Water shield and Shamanistic rage just make what it was amazing at even better. Raid healing and mana sustain.
PvE won’t scale because shamans will be OOM.
Shamanistic Rage is on the right track for resolving a good portion of Shaman’s mana issues. Its current incarnation, though, depends too much on Rockbiter weapon in order to be effective. If it was changed in some way to still give good mana regen without requiring Rockbiter, it would help a lot.
Yeah I look more in long terms. A Classic tier 2 warlock vs a SoD Ele Shaman- who does more PvE DPS? It’s gonna be the lock. But now they are even stronger.
Shamans just don’t compete imo.
Most fights are quick and shamanistic rage helps alleviate some of that.
Yep. Shamans need a windwalk totem, which is an on CD totem that grants roots and slow immunity. That way horde have freedom.
Bloodlust would be great, even if it’s a smaller, less insane version.
Lava burst will NEVER be good because it is not worth breaking your rotstion to apply the shock. The only way it’s going to work is if lava burst refreshes flame shock, adds to its duration, and extends flame shock range.
Resto sham could get something like spirit link which would be great in pve and totally broken in pvp
Would be kinda garbage if paladin gets to keep Crusader Strike and Divine Storm but we don’t get bloodlust. Even a self lust would be a massive power boost.
I feel the same way. Classic Enh is considered a 5-Man Hero to this day because of its flexibility, the fact we’ll be relevant tanks till 60 will really shine in places like Strat, etc.
When we start getting in 25/40-Man territory I see raid compositions being close or identical to how they look like in the most recent Naxx logs.
I can see bloodlust being like its wc3 version. Single target, shorter cd than its duration.
Or they just make it power infusion mk2
Warlocks and Rogues could tank dungeons in classic, if you really wanted to.
Mage healing is the only truly “new role”
Paladins should have always been melee/tanks more than healers tbh
Even the ZG enchants for Paladins give defense
If there was one class that actually needed some love in classic, it was Paladins. It’s totally fine that they get the most love in SoD.
It doesn’t really matter as long as Warriors do it better (which they currently do). Every class should be fun to play. OG Paladins were not so fun.
You cant resume all the shaman dps problems in the weapon…
Even with full bis items/weapons for this phase the damage is poor compared with other classes, and lava lash damage is trash for the multiplier.
Idiot take. All the paladins in raids I saw were wearing dresses and casting heals. Let’s not be delusional here.
If blizz intended for them to do that they would have obviously given them a taunt and buttons to hit in melee right!?
I don’t even understand how 2004 blizzard intentions would have any bearing on a seasonal server with abilities and mechanics added from the lens of how each spec performs in various expansions of the game.
I don’t think blizzard intended for rogues to quick draw pistols or mages to heal in 2004(something mages can’t even do in retail now).
So now we can get back on top of the topic of enh being a viable dps.
