I’m just totally curious. I was looking at some of the elite guilds and their are saying they need “logs” for applicants.
Are these a 3rd party source that stores data? Are they player side?
Again, purely curious.

its like checking your performance as an athlete after a competition.
third party addon record your fight and give you score after comparing to other people who also have records.
Of course guilds want to check your resume.
But, Imo regular players with common sense and practice will do the job no problems
WoW has a combat log, where everything that happens around you is written into a gigantic text file. It’s had this since vanilla.
When people say “logs” they mean you run it through a web site that filters and sorts the data into useful tables.

If you are just learning what raid logs are, a guild that requires them is probably not for you. Look for a guild that accepts casuals.
The logs themselves are native to the game… there’s a slash command to turn them on and off. When they’re on, they log all your combat actions to a text file in your WoW game folder (player side). Edit: There are also add-ons that will automatically turn them on when you enter a raid and/or dungeon and turn them back off when you exit that instance (AskMrRobot comes to mind and I think Raider IO also has an option for this).
Warcraft Logs is a 3rd party site that you upload your log to, where it is parsed and stored. You choose if others can see your parsed log or not. There are lots of tools to look at your parse and compare it to other players in your item-level range or to the best players that have ever uploaded same-fight logs across the globe.
