I’ve only done raid finder in the past thinking of getting more serious but have no clue what keys are. Do I need something special to even access the higher difficulty raids?
Keys are in reference to mythic plus dungeons because you get a key to access different levels of what ever dungeon.
There are different difficulties of raid. LFR then Normal then heroic then mythic.
The only barriers to these would be finding your own group thru the group finder or finding a guild. And of course your ilvl followed by mechanical aptitude.
