It seems like they are going to get nerf hard. I have been leveling a paladin as prot and that class is pretty much indestructible. Are they extremely dominant in Wpvp?
They are good in wpvp, great in bgs, bad in Arenas. Dont let whiners make you think arena prot is op. If they died to a prot pally, they would had been absolutely stomped by a ret of the same calibre.
Let’s see.
- No slows.
- You’re slow.
- Can’t build holy power if you can’t hit people.
- Can’t kill healers 1v1.
Point two isn’t correct given consecration can be talented to give a 50% slow.
Point three isn’t accurate given most Holy Power is generated through ranged abilities. Some do not even require a target at all. It’s only Crusader Strike which is your lowest priority ability…
Prots mobility is also far superior to either Holy or Ret. Still has nothing on a VDH though.
DPS can’t kill healers 1v1 either unless in deep dampening in arena.
Your list is very misleading…I think you are talking about something you have no experience in!
All tanks could use some love in PVP. Prot just happens to be one of the more viable picks. I maimed Prot last season and it was very enjoyable in all forms of PVP including 3’s. That said it’s not going to be a top tier compared to investing the time into a DPS or Healer.
If you want to play a tank in PVP and have fun you have limited options. VDH, Prot or Bear in that order IMO. Prot is the pick if you are thinking arena only and VDH for RBGs.
Prot’s biggest weakness is that they allowed blood elves to play them.
Blood elves have a lot of established lore going back to TBC to support them being paladins.
In world PvP I feel like I am very hard to kill, but against other dps with heal abilities it is very hard to kill them as well. As for instanced PvP all tanks take somewhere around 50% increased damage to offset the defenses. Also we seem to take more damage than other tanks and can feel very squishy in mythic dungeons. As for questing, all tanks are baby Jesus in a can. they can cheese through lvling and can do group quests solo.
Honestly this doesn’t make a lot of sense Prot’s strong point is Arena not sure why you think it changed from BFA. They also are really strong in RBGs.
They were already nerfed pre launch.
Their weakness is to opening stuns before combat. So getting in combat and once you get momentum going you are basically the Juggernaut.
- You have a slow
- You have steed and PvP talent to make steed OP and a conduit
- You have ranged attacks so how can you not hit ppl
- Why are you focused on killing healers 1v1? I mean you can do it but why? Just silence them and global the Dps.
Excuse me?
The biggest weakness for paladins in general is our mobility. It’s an easy one to exploit if you’re a ranged class with snares.
- A poor slow that requires you to be in melee range of people that can just jump out of it.
- Outside of steed, Paly is a very slow class. The second slowest after DK.
- You have ranged attacks that have cooldowns. You generate most of your Holy Power in melee range. If somebody is pillar humping you can’t generate holy power.
- Just making a point.
These are just class weaknesses. There’s a large list of class strengths.
Blizzard gutting them every few months is the biggest catch I think OP
This is the truth unfortunately
agreed. sorry I wasn’t in before “but lore”.
Prot paladin has always been the go to lvling experience. You can basically tank as many mobs as u can tag.
As far as pvp, cant stand it takes way to long to kill people open world.
To me, the biggest weakness is the reliance on Holy Power for SoR. If there is something preventing you from generating HP, then you can’t use SoR or WoG. Getting The Magistrate’s Judgement makes things feel a lot smoother than it does with my equivalently geared Alliance Pally, who has Holy Avenger’s Engraved Sigil.
As for having healed Prot pallies, many of their weaknesses is they don’t use all their abilities. I see many that don’t Cleanse, barely use WoG as SoR doesn’t always need to be the 3 HP spender all the time, or don’t even BoP someone to save them from dying.
fact I have always played prot but not now ret does everything prot does only better
The holy power thing is moot if you take the aoe hammer trait as you do not need a target to spam it. Judgment and Shield are good distances for range. I run hammers in BGs so I can always keep 5 holy power for emergencies.
The slow things though, ya, those hurt a lot.
