What are peons?

Are they a sub-class of orc? Subspecies? Just dumb orcs? Are they ever compensated for their work or are they unpaid interns?

Good question. I always looked at them and wondered if they were like the men that tried to be a Spartan warrior, but didn’t make the cut or something.

They are laborers and cowards. If they’re lazy, even the lowliest of warriors are permitted to club them over the head with a blackjack to wake them up.

Peons are low working… workers. Orc Peons are just form warcraft 3 and are in the game because Orgimmar needs workers.

Come to think of it… do the maghar have peons? What about humans and peasants? Elves and… elf engineers?
I wonder what they do with the orcs that are even more useless than peons. Wolf chow?

we don’t have democracies and such political systems in Warcraft, it’s feudal

there is the king or warchief
who commands the military
and the merchants, farmers, tradespeople are under them

I suppose in Orc society all the orcs who can’t be warriors are just serfs aka peons
who do all the common labouring

Peons are the unappreciated workers who do the grunt work that makes us soldiers of the Horde and Alliance lives easier.

I’m pretty sure they’re just the oafs who didn’t amount to much in life but are happy enough moving boxes and chopping wood and assorted other types of work-work. The Orcs have a military structure to their society and if you don’t amount to a military, spiritual or logistical position you are given a wood chopper in exchange for much of your vocabulary.

They’re orcs who aren’t meant for battle, but we all have to have our place so they build/work. They aren’t all lazy because I think there was a really hard working one in my garrison… he has glasses and might be the boss(/leader?) of them lol.

Edit: And I’m sure they get some kind of payment. Horde isn’t really the type to not pay someone for working.

Not everyone can be the cream of the crop. The world needs ditch diggers too. There is nothing wrong with being a ditch digger either, although simple work it can be quite rewarding.

They speculate that lead to the downfall of Sparta. They used a zero tolerance rule to what they considered useless and they slowly ran out of people. Enough people to keep them going anyways.

Interesting. What if the peons all went on strike, rebelled, etc though. How would that be dealt with?

They are the same as us. We are Blizzard peons. They are the Hordes. They are the nothings, the grunts, the expendable guys in the background that nobody cares about.
