Referring to your soul.

If I remember correctly, when you beat a Heroic Dungeon (which is an upgraded version of the same dungeon with slightly more, and slightly harder mechanics than normal) you get a special Key that open a Mythic Dungeon. Or maybe it’s when you beat the baseline Mythic Dungeon. Either way, one of them drops a key with a + on it and you use that to open progressively more difficult Mythic+ Dungeons, so long as you can beat the timer on the key.

Ah so it’s for dungeons? Why is everyone talking about your soul lol

That’s ok we were all noobs once.

Keys stands for Keystones, timed instances that go up in levels.

You start with a mythic 0 aka just the dungeon on mythic difficulty. After that, you get a +2 keystone.

Once you time the keystone depending on fast you do the key, you go up +1 +2 or +3, respectively.

So let’s say you did that +2 so fast it went up +3 levels… that means you would end up with a +5 keystone.

The key take away with keystones is there are affixes attached depending on the level. These affixes add extra challenge to the dungeon and change on a weekly basis. These can vary from explosive orbs to spirits that chase you.

At keystone level 10, thundering is added in as an affix. This gives you a buff but if you fail to clear the stack by finding your opposite polarity (it’s a + and - system) you are stunned and take damage.

Keystone Master (KSM) is obtained at 2k rating this season.
Keystone Hero (KSH) is obtained at 2.5k rating this season.

Every timed run you do gives you a score, which can be tracked by pressing I by default and navigating to the Mythic + dungeons tab.

Hope that helps

Unfortunate, but understandable. I wish you luck.

To give you a helpful answer instead of a sarcastic one, keys are a higher difficulty of your standard dungeons. So, when you first start a mythic dungeon and finish it, you will receive a keystone of level 2 but once yhou start going into levels, the harder the dungeon is. Keystones are timed so if you fail to complete the dungeon, your key will go down and you will have to start from a keystone lower. But, if you screw up on a two key, you will be able repeat the key. You will also get stuff from your vault too for completing one.

Fuzzbutt gave you a pretty good rundown of what they are. As for the soul taking thing, there’s alot of people who frequent this forum who hate the concept of hard things and think they’re literally evil. I’d take alot of what you read here with a fistful of salt.

Explained it much better I did.

Very good question.

It can be whatever level you like. If you want to stay in lower keys you’re welcome to do so and if you want to keep going higher and higher you can too.

I did forget to mention that timing a +20 keystone gives you an instance teleport. Along with KSM giving a mount and KSH giving a slight alteration to transmog appearances.

Keys are objects that opens locks

Glad you said that. Keystones are also placed into the font of power at the beginning of an instance.

That is why they are refered to as keys… they unlock the dungeon at that difficulty.
