Yeah unfortunately they’re interesting vendor trash. Like the perpetual motion device I got from bling tron, they usually end up in my collection anyway. I like the insect trapped in amber the best. Never found the trilobite, I’d rock that in my bags.
I had an interesting idea about archeology. What if it dropped items for sockets? Putting a magical fossil or an ancient gem I dug into my gear, even if it’s no better than what I can buy in the AH, would just be neat. It’d be full of flavor and you’d save a few hundred here and there. Also make gem slots common again so jewelcrafting gets a bump instead of taking another hit.
back in cata you could get grey arch items for gold then in MoP they changed it so you could craft them into other arch fragments. I don’t know the list off the top of my head but races like Nelf, troll, Orc archaeology will give gold for their grey items.
Archeology, imo, exists for somewhat easy xp. Decent xp hits per find and if the area doing a kill X mobs anyway…it gives it deeper meaning. You have to clear them out to dig up the finds anyway.
I think it was in cata you could find some items that were useful for transmogs and actual useful items at the time.Though they couldn’t be traded nor sold on AH,except maybe vial of sands.
There are approximately (might be wrong)
17 toys to collect
7 pets to collect
1 Unique item that works like a toy but isn’t last i checked
(The last relic of Argus)
2 Mounts to collect (3 if you count alchemy mount)
21 Bind on Account equipment(weapons and armor) but are static level as opposed to the scaling options available in the collections tab.
(these also do not appear in the collections tab)
