I’ve heard there are some unique designs there, but I haven’t checked the place out. Are the dinosaurs that are tameable normal mobs, or only rares?

They’re pretty much all easy to find. Oondosta on Giant Isle has a 15 minute spawn. Horridon in Throne Of Thunder is instanced. The only thing you’ll need is a Tome of Dinomancy which drops off the Dinomancers in Giant Isle. Best of luck.
And where is Giant Isle? Never heard of that location.
North of Kun Lai.
Giant Isle is north of Kun’lai Summit. You won’t see it looking at the zone view, you’d have to zoom out to the continent view. It’s the island in the center on the top of the map. It’s a no-fly zone, so in order to make the trip I suggest you pick up a glider or two before attempting to travel out there.
And how do I come by a glider? I also didn’t know those were a thing. Gliders are used in GW2 as a permanent feature, but that’s been my only exposure to that type of item an MMO.
Action House, though you can get one you can mount to your cape if you pick up engineering and work on MoP Engineering for a little bit.
I always buy goblin gliders off the auction house. They’re a pretty standard item to carry for most players. You could setup your Draenor Garrison with an engineering hut to create them yourself and save a few gold while you’re at it.

Well, you can fly most of the way there. It just dismounts you once you get close and you fall into the water. Then you can get the flight point (horde right side of beach, alliance left side)
The island has 4 Triceratop pets. Blue, Red, Green & White. And 3-4 Devilsaur. Plus Oondasta is tameable now. Or Horridon which is a blue triceratops with equipment on him(throne of thunder raid, 2nd boss). The devilsaurs require BM spec to get, but the others do not. Just the book, as mentioned. The book drops off the humanoids on the island. Note that. The humanoids and not the dinos
