Video games were originally designed for children. Games like Donkey Kong,
Mario Brothers. Pong. Asteroids etc.
Parents would buy game consoles for their kids. As well as simple rpgs on floppy discs for the home computers.
Over the years it seems everyone is playing mmorpgs like Wow. But is this as it should be?
When I read the various game forums on the internet. I see young people denigrating older players, being snarky; saying grandpas and grandmas should not be playing Wow because they are too old, and out of it.
And I also see people saying children are too young to play Wow because they are too impressionable. And and not mature enough.
Iâm not too sure what to make of all this? Sometimes it seems when I read gaming forums. I feel like I entered the Twilight Zone?
So I ask you: should mmorpgs be age restricted beyond what they are already? What age brackets should a person fall into in order to play mmorpgs?
I know there is the ESRB Rating system. But It seems some gamers have there own opinions and laugh at those they deem unworthy of playing a mmorpg.
Is there such a thing as a person being too young or too old to play Wow?
What if the game had multiple difficulty tiers of content that people of all age levels could pursue to their own skill-appropriate competitive or completely non-competitive level.
People just arenât emotionally mature enough before that.
The real answer is whatever their parents say. I have rarely come across a kid who could hold the own⊠But if I grew up with online games it wouldnât have stopped me either
Thereâs no such thing as too old to play Video Games as for minimum age Iâd say follow the rating or as a Parent research the game and if possible play it yourself and then make an informed judgement.
Unfortunately some people are like that and talking as a Gen Z they are very wrong Video Games are for everyone.
Yeah, itâs on the label. WoW is pg12 or something, so best to let them play it when they are a teen basically or you are gonna have an incident like a blizz employee had I think it was that had a younger âchildâ , I donât think the child was even a teenager, and the employee or staffer or someone complained so we get weird changes after 20 years cause someone was an irresponsible adult lol
As for too old to play WoW? No, as long as you can get around in game⊠I donât care personally but others feel embarrassed saying they play WoW so there is only that aspect lol
Actually the first âvideo gamesâ ever made were designed for adults and even had a rating for such. Granted they were old text adventures but it throws your sentiment out the window.
Too young, probably. I donât think there should be a specific age limit (lower or upper) because that is going to depend on the maturity of the child and what exactly theyâll be exposed to.
If they play with chat disabled, probably much younger than if they play with chat turned on.
