What About Target Dummies?

What do you guys think? Is it too much change? I feel like it would be easier than finding an invincible NPC to attack.

As long you can’t get weapon skill ups on them there would be no reason not to have them.

How is this so hard for you people to grasp?

This is what I am thinking. It seems like it wouldn’t change anything.

And private servers often have target dummies added in the cities

The guild bank thread is pretty much the same argument I guess. A minor convenience being added.

The guild bank is a change as it changes how people interact.

This LITERALLY changes nothing.

Alliance are target dummies.

Let me just put on my old man hat here…

Back in my day if we wanted a target dummy we found a guild healer and dueled them! And you know what? We were grateful for it, grateful I tell you!

In all seriousness though this shouldn’t be added for one reason. The more changes we are “ok” with, the more they might think we need. I hate to use the slippery slope fallacy but they already did it once.

Did engineers make Targeting Dummies?

There are tons in Blasted lands. We know this…

:cocktail:

There is target dummies. They’re in Theramore.

Except Theramore has target dummies already, But you knew that right?

I’m all for #nochanges but that ship sailed when they decided to force major changes like

  • battle.net integration (potential to allow quick and easy communication cross faction)
  • 7.3.5 client (changes, the way players interact with world geometry, making many old tricks and conveniences impossible)
  • right click reporting (potential for abuse, and an excuse to skimp on CS)

and

  • loot trading (potential for abuse, and an excuse to skimp on CS)

And those are just the major, potentially game breaking, changes that are confirmed.

There’s this mindset that if we can’t prevent the big changes, we should rally around the little changes, or the changes that aren’t being considered (like dual spec), so that we can feel like we accomplished something.

We have different opinions on what we consider game breaking. For me the focus is on gameplay and the actual game, the only one which I would include from your list is loot trading. As for the old tricks and conveniences you mentioned… are you talking about anything besides bugs? Understand I’m not attempting to be snarky here but am entirely serious, and would like a real discussion. I don’t understand why these are major game breaking changes, which in my opinion would be something like giving prot paladins a taunt talent.

Not so much game breaking as nostalgia breaking or immersion breaking. It’s the little things, like when an npc is on a terrace on the backside of a building. In the original engine, you just hopped the fence, like you would in real life. In the new engine, you’re forced to walk around the building, go through the interior, etc, because the fence that used to be a literal object that could be vaulted, is now an invisible wall stretching to the heavens. It’s a change that adds nothing while taking away something that made the game more fun, now I find myself raging at it the way I do in games like fallout where there’s a “locked” door that is 3/4 missing.

The biggest thing about the new engine is that by having it, as a basic change, from the get go, it guarantees an inauthentic experience.

Then there is no need to add them to others cities, right?

Wait we can’t jump over fences? Do you have a source, because my fallback strategy as a ranged person against melee elites could seriously suffer. Also I’m pretty sure you can jump on and over fences in live O.o at least some of them.

When I went to retail to level a character to 10+ after the forum change, fences and guard rails were unjumpoverable.

You’d best be able to jump and run on fences, taking that out would be just silly…

It’s not minor at all. It affect the economy and makes life way easier for AH players.

Glad you used the present tense to further prove you play a pirate server and did not play vanilla. Theramore did not get target dummies until the end of vanilla, 1.11 if I remember correctly. If he want a target dummy he can go there. Blizzard should NOT place them other places.
