What about rp addons

Are those going to go to?

Cause i dont want an inferior version of trp3 or xrp blizzard

Watch the video instead of reading clickbait articles. Ion addressed this exact concern.

The vast majority of add-ons are fine - including RP add-ons.

They only want to replace combat add-ons that depend on real time combat information.

But we should absolutely request better in-game RP tools.

And even then, they said they may have to limit some of the functionality.

Yes! Crazy how the goblins got the potion thing to do the lean. I think they should give us a way to do a lot of the newer animations

No one said any addons are going, and Ion specifically said they have no plans to do anything with addons not connected to combat.

I feel like 90% of these threads wouldn’t exist if the makers actually watched the 45 minute long video addressing a plethora of questions & concerns.

In their defense…it is a 45 minute video. Blizzard could have/should have put out a TLDR FAQ page or something.

They don’t even read the article either, just see the title and off they go.

That would be nice. It took me a few days to finally get around to watching it myself. Even a full transcription of it would be nice for Ctrl + F purposes.

I know they said it but it’s a terrible idea. Anyone can download an addon. It’s easy. At least with addons we get more choice as to what we want to see. If necessary we can even go into the LUA code and make our own tweaks. But if it is hard coded into the interface then we get what we get and that’s it.

I would hate to see one of their best ideas thrown into the trash can.

I’m pretty sure 90% of my posts this past week have been “watch the video.” lol

But the moment they do that, people infer things and don’t comprehend that it’s just a summary. And then poo still hits the fan.

My favorite part about this is that other races do the lean just fine. Like, the skeletons can do it. They’ve been doing it since BfA even, some Kul’tirian models did it!

But nope, only cool thing for cool gobs. :sunglasses:

Anyway, non-gameplay addons seem like they’ll be just fine, including RP addons. It’d be neat to have native support (Like, say, allowing us to have actual last names like a certain other MMO) but until that day comes, RP addons should be just fine.

No. They are not going anywhere.

The people who come to these forums bleating about “they’re going to ban add-ons” have reading comprehension issues or serious difficulty with listening because nobody at Blizzard has ever said anything of the kind.

They are deliberately and melodramatically misinterpreting a single comment from an interview Ion gave last year and a more recent interview with devs with another comment about specific types of weakauras—not even weakauras in general; only specific functions in particular kinds of weakauras—that they may or may not break in the future because they trivialize certain encounter mechanics.

  • They are not banning add-ons.
  • RP add-ons are not even related to the particular functions Blizzard is looking at for potential revision/removal.
  • Ignore the emotionally incontinent people who come here saying otherwise. They do it just to get a rise out of people or because they enjoy being upset
or because they watched a streamer who told them to be upset about it because rage bait engagement is how a lot of streamers pay the rent.

It is almost inevitable. Allowing combat add-ons was the worst decision that they ever made. Because they distort the game.

To make a challenging encounter, they have to avoid mechanics that can be trivialized by an addon. Or the encounter isn’t challenging at all.

Worse, if they use mechanics that are mostly easy for the addon, but obscenely difficult without, you MUST use the addon.

I doubt they go as far as they should, it will be another rug pull like the last time they claimed they were going to fix combat add-ons.

I think it’s important to remember that we don’t have a timeframe here. Ion said he was starting a long term conversation; they aren’t removing these features next week (or even next expansion). Ion understands that Details, DBM, and many WeakAura packs are useful and good.

I genuinely do not expect these changes before the end of The Last Titan.

The goal is cutting out the problematic parts (the common example is add-ons that solve assignment mechanics) with as little collateral damage as possible, and only when (and if) the game can reasonably replace those tools in the default UI.

I still expect to be able to modify the default UI with add-ons. I see no reason why a Blizzard-made damage meter could not be supplemented with an add-on that hides unwanted info, tracks info that doesn’t change gameplay (e.g. how many times did I interrupt during this dungeon), or generally changes the appearance of the Blizzard-made version.

Yes, there will be limitations we don’t have now. Ion knows this; that’s why they made the video explaining the situation far ahead of time. But the goal is setting reasonable limitations that make the game better.

I totally understand anyone having reservations about Blizzards ability to follow through on all of this. I’m not sure I believe it all myself, but that’s the stated goal and it’s only been a week. I’ll give them a chance to prove themselves.

Lol, removing addons at all is the rug pull, not keeping them. wow has always allowed addons and now they are looking into changing that. But we all bought and pay a sub to a game that allows addons. They’re changing the deal. Thankfully they know their game is unplayable without them in certain content; so they will probably keep most of what people are used to

My hopes are that since they take feedback from expansions as they happen to work on expansions several down the line as they must to keep up with a 2 year production cycle, that this means the lean potion and Undermine brawler scrolls are being used to see how well player models handle these added functions… since NPC models are so much different from player ones, this being one reason they can wear heels and we can’t.

It’s easy to forget that while NPCs are sometimes the same race, overall NPCs use different rigging skeletons alot of times than we do, like the Venthyr or Tyrande. What may work on an NPC might not necessarily work on us.

Technical rigging and animation are nonsurprisingly one of the highest costs in art and entertainment.

I shouldnt have to watch a 45 minute video about playing the same game I have for 20 years.

There should of been a FAQ

If the encounter is not challenging at all then why does it take the RWF teams over 100 pulls to kill the final raid boss? Then when they nurf the raid, why does it take the next 1000 teams weeks to finish the raid for HOF or CE, if they can do it at all?

As for the lower levels, you don’t need all that stuff. Do you really need anything other than the simple addons to do a Normal or Heroic Dungeon or Raid?
