What about permament pet in shaman?

Sometimes I imagined shaman’s elemental be a permament pet like hunter/warlock’s.

Is it too routine?

What about other farseers thinking?

Looks like you are playing the class you want shaman to be.

Absolutely dislike, would consider re-rolling.

Nice post. I’m sure it’ll be littered with people grandstanding saying “Go play hunter, or a lock, if you want a pet her herrrrrrr”

Your post is valid, it is accurate according to shamans you fight, or speak with in the game both good and bad having access to permanent strong “bonds” rather than controlling them per say.

Blizzard literally only doesn’t do it at the expense of other pet classes  That’s really it. Have like 4 pet classes “Unholy, hunter, mage, and warlock” They all get their pet, you don’t tho.

Anyone who responds with saying go play another class is just a dough head.

No thank you. I have no desire for shaman to be a pet class. That being said, i would like some more flavour added to the elemental summons that we do have.
It’s always bothered me that we can’t summon a water elemental for Resto. And some glyphs to change the type of elemental we summon (like mages) would be nifty.

Doesn’t HAVE to be a pet class. Give people a talent who want it. Simple. Lose a tad of damage, but have greater defence, and help for mythix+ high keys. Other option a tad more damage for pure single target ect. Eben just allowing a perm earth elemental would be nice.

No…no and NO

It would be cool but it’s never going to happen.

I don’t mind the concept of a pet, but I don’t know how it would be novel anymore.

The thing about this game is that we have DPS pets and Tank pets but no pets heal, and if we’re going to give pets to Shaman, and we care about it being novel, I say we give it to the Resto Shaman, and we make it the games first/only healing pet.

It would help with mobility, be consistent with our external buffs, and create a new interesting dynamic.

Alternatively, I was using the Ravasaur Skull Bijou trinket for awhile and felt like that should be Shaman baseline, since we need more “Ancestors” related things. Either Wolf or Raptor bones.

In the shaman tanking threads i had posted my suggestion for how shaman tanking would work, and it involved a permapet.

You’d summon a stone golem - like those the dwarves build - and it would fight alongside you. The golem would generate minor threat on enemies that aren’t attacking you, kind of like the black ox statue used by monks, and using your taunt on the golem would tauny all enemies within a radius.

At the same time, the mastery passive would use the golem as part of your damage mitigation:

Mastery: stonewarden
A percentage of all damage you take is instead dealt to your stone golem.
A percentage of all damage you deal is converted to healing on your stone golem.

This way, you get something like 20-30% (or more) damage “mitigation” by having it transfer to your pet, and as you use your attacks and spells to generate threat and deal damage it heals your golem to keep it alive.

I like the idea as a spec option but not mandatory.

It would be nice for solo’ing elites and I like any type of build diversity addition.

People tend to be short sighted and only think about a very narrow point of view hence the massive NO out cry you will likely get…

That said the perma pet talent would likely require your elementals be tuned down a bit.

Enhance shamans used to have some control over Wolves, we had a stun and spirit walk that were part of the pet abilities. BUT like everything else Blizzard removed all control we had over wolves and gave us spiritwalk as a CD.

Im fine bringing back some control over things like Wolves or elementals but I really have no interest in it being a perma-pet class or spec.

Wooah, I completely not expect those number of replies.

I thought perma pet for shaman(elemental/enhancement) as talent, not mandatory

Ex) elemental shaman pet talent draft

  1. Elemental Harmony
  • Let shaman summons fire elemental/storm elemental permamently; however, shaman’s dps slightly reduced.
  1. Elemental Binding
  • Fire elemental/storm elemental’s duration and cooldown are reduced 50%; however, elemental’s dps is increased 75%
  1. Elemental Within
  • Shaman cannot summon fire/storm elemental; however, shaman’s dps will increase.

I gotta disagree with permanent shaman pets. There are so many options for pet classes; frost mages, all locks, and two hunter specs for ranged pet classes, and surv hunters, and unholy DKs fill the melee pet specs. This kind of thing falls under the single element per spec category for me. We have those roles filled, lets not make this class more like others.

I like these ideas though number two would require serious balance scrutiny.

I see some folks are restating the same old protests without really considering the potential… /sigh

No, not even as a talent. Go play hunter instead.

Define potential.

Shaman used to be the only Horde side melee/ magic user…then DKs came along. And with them went a lot of our uniqueness. They had better versions of our skills.

I say that to say this: don’t water us down anymore. Don’t give us retread abilities from other classes with different names. At the same time, stop giving our abilities to other classes.

Let’s try the whole unique class and abilities thing again. Please.

Please.

What I am hearing is if it adds spec diversity or strength to the class people still hate it if its similar to an existing class in some way. Which is almost any change…

Shaman need to go back to being a snowflake like back in the day…

I played Shaman in Vanilla and its had an identity crisis since the earliest of days… Log into classic and read the TT on Rockbiter weapon…

A good idea and a bad idea. The elementals would have to be changed drastically for one and also, the class dynamic would almost be a complete overhaul.

I love my Shaman how he sits, from vanilla until now. They are fine.

I rather wish if you went with the primal elementalist talent that the storm elemental was in addition to the fire one, not a replacement.
