What about my time?

So many complaints I am seeing about M0 being too hard, players not inviting me to content, getting good groups is hard and just the general upset players who find they can’t get anything done in this game and how we should all somehow be magically treated with some pixie dust or something to ensure we can all actively participate and whatever about how your time is important.

But what about my time? Do those who complain not stop to think about someone else’s time and what they are going through?

For example someone complains it’s too hard to get invited into a normal raid or low key, they can’t get into groups and waste a lot of time searching for nothing. Seen some people state they try for hours and nothing. OK let’s for the sake of the argument assume someone is spending 2-3 hours in LFG and not getting a single invite.

Yes it can happen, and yes it is frustrating, but on the flip side right now there are 19 groups listed for VoTI total, that’s it, a potential of 570 people total in NA can be invited to and raid in one of the listed groups. It’s peak now for OCE, there are far more than 570 people who want to raid and are trying to pug.

There is a reason why we ask for more information, why we want more clarity, why some ask for logs and commendation systems to upvote people in game, and anything really that is going to make players more transparent on what they can offer to your group.

With so little people making groups and so many trying to get in, how do you pick? You may think because you pay that you are deserving to join any and all content, but how can you? Without getting into semantics it is a numbers game, simply put, there are not enough people making groups to accommodate everyone trying to get in and that’s assuming everyone is of an equal skill level and a similar iLVL.

So what about my time? What do I do? How can I best utilise what time I have to play to my best advantage? Well, premades of course, but if I cannot? I have to now look at logs, iLVL, class, spec, M+ and raid history, I need to be careful who I pick, I can’t be taking anyone who signs up just because they are a paying customer, because I am also a paying customer and I also need to think about my own time.

It doesn’t always work, some higher iLVL players with good M+ and raid history are bad, some lower ones are great, but we cannot separate them so we have to go with a higher chance to get it right, take those with better stats.

You may think you are deserving to join someones group because “It’s only a low key” or that “I am a great player”, but reality is that those people hosting groups also need to think about themselves, there is just not enough hosting and too many asking.

Sometimes you need to stop and think:

  • Why is this person not inviting me?
  • What can I do to get noticed?
  • How can I improve and get into more groups?
  • How can I better myself?

There are many things, first hosting your own group is the easiest way, even if your stats are balls, there are many lazy people who in low content will be willing to carry you just because it’s easier than making a group.

There are other ways to get gear, we have now had 4 weeks of weekly quests, each offering a 493 champion piece of gear, and each component related to those quests offering a 480 veteran piece of gear. That’s now up to 12 pieces of 480 and 4 pieces of 493 gear, not including the upgrades. We have also had now two TW raids, 2 TW dungeon quests, two crafted pieces of gear and if you done the mythic dungeon quest last week, 3 pieces of BiS vendor gear, plus whatever else I am missing.

Do all those and you would easily have a 490 iLVL without even spending stones or crests, instantly you are in a better situation than you were 4 weeks ago. Do some upgrades, maybe some luck with LFR, get more stones and crests, all of a sudden anyone could be at 500+ iLVL.

Now you can carry yourself in low keys, start low, work your way up, get your own rating. You can also go and do some research, watch some videos and make your own normal raids, normal is not much harder than LFR, you don’t even have to finish the raids, just get some experience, get some stats. You don’t need to push M10 in dungeons, just do something, show people that you are trying, get some gear and M+/raid stats, now all of a sudden you are in a much better situation than those who are not trying and only complaining about not being invited.

And after all that what will happen? You will see it all from the other side, instead of wondering “What about me?”, you will start looking at everyone else asking that question and think “I done it, I spent my time improving, what about my time, why should I invite you?”.

THIS a thousand times.

It may be your time that you think is valuable and ask the “What about me?” question, but it’s also my time, and that person’s time, it’s everyone’s time and we need to equally value each other and look at it from all perspectives.

For dungeons anyway, its really just that there’s wayyyyyyy more dps than tanks/healers. It doesn’t really have anything to do with the amount of groups listed. If 100 more +2 groups were suddenly listed by lone dps players, 100 tanks wouldn’t magically show up to join them.

I have a hard time believing that anyone would write this post unironically…but here we are, lol.

Remember everyone, consider the feelings of the people that don’t invite you to groups or tell you to “git gud”…lol. I just can’t.

I feel like this is a really big post that overcomplicates a simple answer.

No. People often do not think of other people than themselves, or the people close to them.

To those people, it doesn’t matter if a group leader invites you or not because it is up to their discretion who they take, and why. Their group, their rules. Much the same, if you are not group leader, you can be removed at any point for any reason, including your transmog simply being kinda ugly.

Your time is your time. Utilize it how you see fit.

If I join a group, I’m not there to waste my time or anyone else’s.

My time is as valuable to me as your time is to you. What you do with your time is on you, and what I do with mine is on me.

You aren’t any more special than anyone else.

You can, you choose not to and don’t want to. That’s fine, but it comes with drawbacks. Pugging raids (and to a degree M+ too) takes more time than doing content in a more organized fashion.

There are even various Discord communities that organize raids at all sorts of times, late and early, weekdays and weekends. Most of them don’t require long-term commitment, you can just sign up as you have time.

Mythic plus is a tidal wave that starts on the first day of the season.

This wave starts small (0io maybe last season io will help ) will push through with renewed force every week ( higher io requirement )

If you miss the wave you got two options. Run your keys or have friends bump your score with keys.

If you don’t wanna do these you will always be relegated to running your own keys.

Don’t miss the way and keep up with your io. Which usually normalizes at whatever the ksh score is. On the third week of the season. After that you shouldn’t have any problems getting invited to the highest reward points which is +8 this season.

People that complains about keys and not being accepted ignore these first 3 weeks and get ignored.

Good luck catching the next wave!

Super long post I read a portion skimmed the rest.

My take-

No one thinks of others unless there’s an investment into that “other” you are thinking of. There no general courtesy for strangers in this world so why on earth would one think it extends to a game?

The model has literally never changed since day 1 of this game’s existence. This game is based on the holy trinity of rpg mmos tank healer dps. There’s an over supply of dps by very large margins versus tanks and healers.

This will never change right up until the last day the wow servers are turned off to never be turned back on again.

That’s it.

One of the single best arguments for adding ‘follower’ raids. I won’t call for abolishing all group content, but make all raids able to be played solo as well as in groups. Give the group raids the higher ilevel if they demand it, but at least make all content available in game without having to deal with the toxicity of the rest of humanity. Games should be escapes from people, not forced interaction.

It would literally solve every problem you listed.

Umm… if a person is trying to escape other people and for some reason can’t just go into another room and close the door, then playing a single-player game would be the logical (and cheaper) thing to do, not play a multi-player game.

On paper, yes. But. Have you seen the price of single player games lately? 70 bucks for 15-20 hours of content. And now ea wants to put adds in, ubi wants to charge you a sub on top of your live sub to play their games.

Ah. I see the OP’s mistake. You see, the thing you need to understand is, my time is far more valuable than yours. That’s because I’m far more important than you are. Once you understand that, everything else falls into place.

Glad I could clear that up for you.

That’s because there are too many people who don’t know what it looks like on the other side.

My first key I listed in S3 I had a rogue, 20 seconds after the key listed asking for an invite, 10 seconds later whispering me asking for an invite, they then proceeded to abuse me for not inviting them before I could respond.

Then there are those who simply cannot fathom why they never get invited, only for people to point out their low iLVL and lack of M+ rating, like they are just supposed to press join and the game would just put them into the group with other people.

Maybe some people just don’t know how it works at all and don’t realise it’s not automated, but mostly people don’t see the 50+ DPS who sign up the minute there is a tank and healer, and the DPS that keep signing up when you have three DPS already.

Yes, some people around here need to stop thinking only about one side of the coin and look at it from both perspectives, maybe we will end up getting more people making groups.

I promise, this doesn’t come off the way you want it too. This reads very “First world problem”.

I’m pretty sure this new generation has been told the exact opposite for their entire lives.

lol. Exactly. It pretty much comes out as:

“Oh. you can’t get invited to a group. Well, have you considered how hard it is for me since I have to sort through the hundreds of people who want to be in mine? Maybe if you tried harder, I would invite you.”

You are not the main character.

No one cares about your feelings. If you want to get into a group, stop thinking about what you want and start thinking about what others want from you.

You sound like an NPC. lol.

While being a good tank or a healer will get you into groups much faster than a DPS. I’ve ran pure DPS this whole season and the last without any problems. And I only main a warrior aka no barely any utility like lust or battle res. All I bring is DPS. Sure I get declined from keys like everyone else but for the most part I’ll think "got 45 minutes I can find and run a key " and do just that.

And that’s why most players are homeless rats.

People understand the concept of making themselves valuable to get a job but somehow don’t understand that applying for a job is the same as any dynamic between two people or groups of people - if you don’t have anything to offer then they have no incentive to include you.

You sound like a blast to be around. lol. Referring to the commoners as homeless rats.
