WHAT about having the chance to have spells with race theme?

Since adding new classes or specs to put more lore into the gameplay, is an idea that some people dislike mostly because the problems around unbalancing, what if just Blizzard adds the chance to give to our spells a race theme? Let me exlplain you the idea and how i think could be implemented. By the way, some people talk before about something like this, but i didn’t find a thread dedicated to that.

Imagine you have female night elf priest, and you are boring of have spells witch names and descriptions are related to the human view of the Light and the western religious from real world (mostly christianism). And then, in some place of the interface (probably the spell book will be the most accurate spot) you have the option to make that all your spells change their name, icon, and description to being related to Elune worship.
For example: Resurrection will change his name to Elune’s Mercy, just for saying something. And the description could be something like “Asks for Elune’s mercy to bring a allied back to life”. Smite, could be called Moon Bolt, or Lunar Strike. There are a lot of posibilities for every spell.

But customization of spells must be also visual, not just a change in his name, icon, and description. Visual effects must change too. This not must be always a complete aesthetical change in the spells, i’m pretty sure that most visuals efect’s from priests spells will fit good with Elune theme, if with just Blizz change their color from golden to silver. But with other races maybe Blizz will have more work than that.
For example, a healing spell visual for troll priests, will be themed with the loas and the voodoo, and will have a color and aspect more related to… well, i don’t know wich loa grant healing spells, but the spell visual shoul be related to that loa, whatever who was. If it’s a loa serpent, maybe a green color ray with the image of some serpent or several serpents floating to the injured allie could work.

But, this customizations could bring a problem. For example, you are in a BG, and you see the casting bar of your enemy while he is casting and then you’ll know what spell is going to use. But with customizated spells you’ll have to learn the new names and apearence to know what the hell your enemy is casting, right? well, not, not necesarilly. You could have the option not only to see your own spells customisateds, you also will have the chance of see or not see, the customisated spells from enemys, allies, and the diferents classes.

Well, that’s all, at least for now. I gladly will read your thoughts. Cya!

That’d be pretty amazing.

And since it’s such a good idea I doubt Blizzard would do that

I’ve been longing for this for quite a long time now.

This also makes it possible for Void Elves to be Paladins. The theme would be “Void Paladin”.

I have also wanted this for a long time. Functionality and numbers would be uniform across the board but appearance and animations vary. Would make for massive diversity and it would only be cosmetic. It would be an undertaking but I think totally well received

Priests had it back in vanilla people cried because of balance and dwarf fear ward was the best. I doubt it will happen sadly but I love the idea.

But if my memory is not failing, those were actually specifics spells for specific races. The idea here it’s not change or add new spells to any race, just change the descriptions and aesthetics. Balance will keep untouched.

I’m not sure about new names and descriptions, but new animations would be awesome!

Customization makes the world smaller.

This is something I’ve been a huge advocate for on a massive level. With Blizzard’s further nerfing of racials and making them more and more inconsequential, we should have more advocates for racial identity in other ways such as spell effects, names, spell ID’s, coloration, etc. I’d love it.

Been thinking about this a bit lately while playing my sunwalker. Like Blade of Justice being a totem the erupts from the earth etc… etc… Would also show how Game classes doesn’t necessarily mean the would be the same thing lore wise. Sunwalker / Vindicator / Blood knight not exactly the same as paladin. etc…

I support this thread! I also would like the idea of pandaren priests with spells related to the August Celestials. And that pandaren shamans can summon spirit dragons instead of spirit wolves.

But this is not the real world, it’s a fantasy world, where customizations means a lot. Just look at the success of transmogs.

I miss understood. It would be neat I still doubt they’d do it.

It’s a joke, a reference more so, about how Blizzard removed portals to make the world ‘‘feel bigger’’
