I got one of every class to 110 before bfa anticipating the fun I would have in that much variety. Surely I’d find something to like with at least one of them.
Here we are and I managed to get my main to 120 ilev 360 and some of the alts to 111-113 and all I feel when I log in is apathy and boredom.
I could grind crafting, but then you look at it and it is so poorly designed it isn’t worth the effort.
I could do old content. I’ve been doing that far too long now for it to hold any interest.
I could try organized raiding again, but I already went down that road and we all know what that entails so no thank you no interest there for me.
May be pvp? Far too out of balance and rules changing so often that no single class remains viable. No thanks.
All I know is there really is nothing left I want to do and it is a real disappointment to have something I once enjoyed so much turned into what it is today.
I’d join the classic bandwagon if I had any confidence that the current blizzard team could faithfully recreate it but I’ve been around too long and I know they can not or will not do the work it would take to recreate even a close resemblance of what the original wow was.
In other words I guess it’s time to say adios to this game for good and all. I have no confidence they will ever return to their glory days of excellence. I’ve been waiting around lying to myself that surely they would see the light and want to earn that much money again, but sadly that’s not the case.
That seems to be a common thread this expansion. i swear I keep my sub active to post on the forums, they’re a lot more interesting than the game at the moment.
Good post. it sum up my family to a T. I am the only one left. i am here because wife gifted me 6 more months. I having a hard time to find other things beside leveling and achievements. yet not a whole lot. We really don’t get anything interesting till 8.2. That a long way off.
Really i say wait till next expansion to be released before walking away from game. Let it run for a month and if thing remain positive come back. I cant see current developers still in charge by that time. i have been wrong. Man these guys are really messing up. To point it looking like higher ups are getting involved.
I’m sorry you feel this way but I do think it’s best for you to take some time away from the game for sure. I can’t help but feel you have a very narrow and unrealistic perspective of all the things you brought up, and worry that is caused by general burn out.
If not, why not suggest some ways things could improve? Your nostalgic yearning for the “glory days of excellence” are all well and good, but maybe being more specific would help them?
For example, crafting is considerably more valuable than in legion, especially when comparing the launches. You can create mythic quality raid gear for the first time in a decade, so that should immediately be far more interesting than in the past. What could they change besides this to make you more interested? Have you seen the changes coming in 8.1?
Your comments about progressive content don’t say much either. You make a vague comment about raiding, then make an oversimplification about PvP, something that has historically always been volatile.
What could they do to excite you more? Either way, if you don’t enjoy the two main elements of end game competition maybe it’s not just the game’s problem?
How did you approach it in the past?
Regardless, any time I see these vague posts talking about how magical the game used to be, I worry about the headspace of the poster.
My advice is take a break and go enjoy your time doing something else for a while. If you have actual feedback, feel free to leave it so the game can improve!
I know exactly how you feel. You’ll get people saying “there’s plenty to do” and provide a list, but none of it has any real appeal. I’ve had plenty of opportunities to go through old content too during the dead halves of the last few expansions so I have the mogs and mounts I wanted.
You’ll also get people saying you’re burnt out, which I know isn’t true. This is the stock answer to anyone who seems to express dissatisfaction with the game it seems. I devote myself to another game and real life instead of WoW now.
Mostly because anything specific I would have to say would be something that has been already written about clearly and concisely in a manner better than I could manage.
Part of my disappointment is a vague sense of feeling ripped off, in that all those years worth of subscription fees were squandered and not enough of that money went back into developing wow.
No one will agree that this is a ‘good’ expansion. There’s folks who are enjoying it and that’s all good and fine, I want to see wow succeed, sadly the disappointment I am experiencing is the result of poor game design.
When folks quit playing your content by the millions that should be the wake up call you need to improve. Sadly that is not the case here. The issues are self evident and need no clarification from me.
There’s a post up right now where a person who played the blizzcon demo had 3 free days of bfa offered and he was asking if he should return, over 90 replies of which 2 or 3 suggested they return.
I’ll give you one example of which I’ve written about before, ‘makeshift azerite detector’ an engineer crafted piece of troop gear, they easily could have included in the tooltip has a chance to return from success missions with 25 ap. At which point considering the hefty amount of top end mats it takes to craft would have discouraged 99.9% of players from even bothering with.
It’s this sort of design throughout all the game’s systems right now. I would like to chalk it up to the product being rushed but it appears like a deliberate attempt to tank the game. That’s what this expansion feels like, one giant get lost from the developers.
I’ll have to take your word for it then. There are things that haven’t been great but again if you aren’t going to be specific there is nothing here to discuss.
I’ve been very satisfied with the expansion and 8.1 is looking like it will be my favorite patch ever at this point.
I think a vast majority of the problems people have are with their own entitlement and outlook.
Your one specific example is something so unbelievably trivial and easily fixed it really clarifies my concerns with your view point.
I hope you find something that makes you happy, but if you don’t like what you see in the game now and aren’t willing to suggest ways to make them better that actually make sense for the current goals of the game then our time here together is done!
Pretty much how I feel about class design. Hoping for some good changes in the future patches but so far 8.1 looks like mostly numerical changes even though they discussed reworks for certain specs. They have changed some talents though and are adding more traits at least.
It is hard sometimes to log in when you have no goals to actively pursue. At the same time, the dip in WoW urges allows me to break off and do other games without feeling like I’ll fall behind, or to farm mats and gold for when I know I am going to be playing heavy and needing the resources.
It’s hard to expect WoW to be a constant level of entertainment unless you are the type of player that enjoys every branch. Raiding gets old, PVP, PVP gets old, pet battles, etc.
WoW isn’t at its best right now, I agree. But it isn’t really any worse than it has ever been.
Of course. Presenting an intelligent person with a “story” and writing so simplistic and obviously contrived at every turn is my fault. It’s my "‘entitlement’’ that’s causing my dissatisfaction.
I have 1 level 120, several others at various levels, and I’m just tired of doing the quests. I’m still not exalted, and I still have a lot to do, but I’m tired.
I have no intention of leaving, but I’m taking a bit of a break. I’ve gotten involved in ESO right now, working on Morrowind (they had a sale on game price.) lol Quite enjoying it.
I log onto WoW off and on still, but I’m not super playing it. I need a break.
Ths gimmick of this expansion was not fun. Azerite armor is not fun, Island expidtions are not fun. So at the end of the day we just a got a really big content patch.
Bring back talent trees. Not the 3 options we have now, the 51 point trees. Abilities shouldn’t be taken away from a class to be returned as a talent later.
Classes do not have to be re-designed each expansion. No one asks for it (unless that class is already underperforming). I think most people can agree that MOP classes felt the best.
Make professions meaningful. You can craft mythic quality raid gear, ho boy. It takes items that come from a raid already and feels underwhelming. Remember when you could craft the titansteel shieldwall and it was the best shield you’d see for a LONG time unless you were raiding? What happened to items like that? I don’t even bother picking up crafting professions anymore on alts, there’s no point to them.
Easily fixed and went into the game AS-IS. Your argument is invalid.
People paying money to play a game are entitled to have fun. That’s not unreasonable. As far as outlook, people were hoping to have lots of things to do, that felt polished, that felt tested. What they got was unfinished classes, mythic+ affixes that didn’t feel like they’d been tested at all, PITA and uninspired dungeon design, the main story gated by reputation. “We’d like to tell you more about the MAIN STORY OF THE EXPANSION, but you haven’t sent your little table guys on enough missions yet.” Most expansions were designed with the desire to keep people grinding and subscribed as long as possible, but it never felt as blatant as it does now.
It’s about shareholders, not about us. We’re just wallets to be fleeced. The minute a game stops being for the people that play it, it’s days are numbered. You’d think Blizzard would take a page out of EA’s book. They killed Command and Conquer doing the same thing Blizzard is doing now.
Terrible RNG design of Azerite armor, RNG on top of RNG with WF/TF and traits. Oh look, more AP to grind, that’s new and exciting.
I just came to see “how full of himself can he be today.” You’d think they were paying him.
In wrath, I couldn’t decide what main I wanted to be, I leveled a ton of alts (even multiples of the same class) and enjoyed all of them. I raided with three different characters. I loved everything I played.
Now, I’ve leveled my main and one other character to 120. I have 0 motivation to level anything past 110. Why? They have the same stuff to look forward too.
The same thing here. I’ve leveled up all classes except the dh to 120 and I am so bored. There is little to no reason at all to level alts in this expansion. I used to do this for fun before wod/legion but that was ages ago. The game has evolved, I have evolved. Just leveling to 120 meh. It’s quite sad because I have so many characters I would like to get to 120 that are stuck at 110. I’m just too bored!
8.1 might change it but I seriously doubt that. That incursion they are adding could be nice I guess but still, mission tables being as horrible as they are. Zero motivation to level alts.
I love how running old content to gain perks of a new expansion is considered a selling point. Allied races should have been unlocked through some kind of epic quest chain. People wouldn’t be so burned out if this were the case. BfA is a total disappointment. Friends want me to level my monk and I just can’t do it. I have no desire to log in.
I had enough gold lying around to come back for a month after quitting a week after launch and hitting 120. Safe to say I’m not going to be doing it a second time.
As someone who has played BFA since Alpha, let me tell you we SCREAMED at Blizzard that
Classes felt like garbage
Tons of dead talents
Azerite system was bad
AP felt tedious and limiting and like an unnecessary grind that we are going to lose at the end of the expansion.
Expansion features like Islands, Warfronts, and Azerite traits felt un-intuitive and bland.
Perhaps the biggest one - Leveling to 120 felt empty. No new talent, no new spells, absolutely pointless on paper to be 120 as opposed to 110. No character power increase at all other than the gear.
“It’s only Alpha” became “It’s only Beta” became “8.1 will fix it.”
They had their chance to fix this, but the whole expansion feels rushed and unfinished. The point is we dont NEED these systems.
BC had no special systems, it added flight and two races. WotLK was the same, it was more of the MMORPG we loved.
Latest expansions have been adding these stupid systems that do nothing but make for an unending grind to keep players begrudgingly logged in to keep up, and to serve as an easy power reset for the next expansion.
My character isn’t stronger from Legion, he is just Legion strong. Same with BFA, anything I do here will ultimately be wiped out to “Heal Azeroth” and then I will be given a new expansion sponge to soak up with new expansion AP.
New stories, new zones, new gear, new spells, and interesting stuff to do with them. That is all it takes for a expansion to be well received. Forget Azerite, forget AP, forget the convenient power reset at the end of the expansion.
