Revenge is not a fixed damage amount. It’s affected by AP and can crit. It therefore scales.
All that stuff you wrote about 2 handed weapons, flurry, etc. is accurate but not relevant. The guy I was responded to said that tanking abilities do not scale. I simply pointed out the tanking abilities/talents that DO scale. I’m not arguing how they compare to other talent trees or abilities, simply pointing out that his post was inaccurate.
I agree, just take a bear for 5 mans. Swipe is great for dungeon pulls and they provide 3% crit aura to all the dps warriors who are allergic to putting on a shield. It’s a win/win.
I have two warrior tank friends who have expressed an interest in trying it out. They also know the value of having dps and a healer that can help them support it. I’m all for trying it out with either or both of them. No harm, no foul and at least they’ll see firsthand for themselves if it’s going to work out or not. I’m not going to fault either of them for wanting to experiment and have fun.
I’ve been arms/prot tanking almost exclusively since hitting level 55 when threat without defiance started to become real. High pull threat, aoe TPS and even single target TPS is amazing. And you do not get penalized wearing high mitigation gear + hit, because sword specialization helps with rage. I tried mace specialization and you would be surprised the proc rate with 2handers and mace/shield. It is not a easy way to tank but it is more fun and it is definitely viable. You do not sacrifice anything a full prot warrior brings, but you contribute higher dps/tps.
Arms/prot is a more dynamic way to play and it is reliant on the individual to know when to switch to shield and when to switch to 2hander. Combining a mitigation 2hander with it works really well. The reason this shines so much in dungeons is because everything is level 60 or below, so the crushing blow/crit risk is reduced. A usual rotation when pulling a large group with a safe charge is, beserker rage -> charge -> bloodrage -> sweeping strikes -> WW - > swap to shield -> shield block -> spam revenge, sunders, demo shout, bs shout, tab sunders etc… MS + slow MH also helps with threat generation and is equal too 2 sunders. It’s not a “Wrong way” it’s just a way of tanking that requires more ability from the tank.
At 35 with ww axe i can tank sm cath i just tab sunder, tab rend, shout, and taunt everything that breaks away. And if i pull too big or suff gets hairy i bs, ss, retaliation. I havent got a sheild drop in 15 levels.
No it isnt. Read a tooltip before you comment on things you have no idea about. This isnt retail.
RevengeRank 5
5 Rage Melee Range
Instant cast 5 sec cooldown
Requires Warrior
Requires level 54
Requires Melee Weapon
Requires Defensive Stance
Instantly counterattack an enemy for 64 to 78 damage and a high amount of threat. Revenge must follow a block, dodge or parry.
It is a fixed damage value that does not benefit from ap or weapon damage.
So it would benefit MORE from having points in impale (20% bonus crit damage on abilities)
“Read a tooltip before you comment on things you have no idea about. This isnt retail.” That’s nice, but you’re still wrong.
Revenge doesn’t benefit from weapon damage but it does benefit from AP.
Also, once again, I’m not debating what skills scale the most, or denying what impale does, but replying to the post that said tanks had no scaling abilities. Revenge and shield slam both scale. 1 handed weapon spec and defiance scale. Those are both true statements.
On a side note, ever notice how level 60 dw tanks never stop spamming chat/gchat/discord with “bro, check out my dps, bro”. Almost worth letting them die at the end of a pull for that reason alone.
This. My BRE and WF ensures I’m tanking whether anyone wants me to or not. With competent healers it’s np. If they’re burning too much mana I throw on some tank gear but keep the 2H. It’s very rare than I need to equip a shield.
I throw on tanking gear and someone else is tanking . its just that bad for pugging as tank atm . had mage dpsing mobs when I was still LOS them , he probably didn’t even know what LOS means .
I’m in the same boat, Tanking gear is overrated in dungeons imo. Armor + TPS Gear is the way to go. Target mobs that either have a nasty debuff, high magic dmg, and/or Mortal Strike. In my next respec, I’m going to try it without defiance and see if aggro and/or inc dmg is an issue.
