Like many of you, I’ve benched my HDH for now because I hate the Momentum playstyle. Not because I can’t do it (there actually isn’t much to it), I just don’t think having movement like that tied to your throughput is smart design for the encounter design in current game. Plus, I like having my movement utility be dedicated to… y’know… movement utility.
I’ve seen the off-meta builds pitched that avoid Momentum, but I’m wondering just how much of a loss we are talking about if we run those over the standard builds. Anyone have good numbers? Thanks in advance.

Are you talking about Momentum exclusively (the talent) or mobility talents in general? (Initiative + UBC + Momentum)
Removing Momentum on its own shouldn’t be that much, however you have to consider that you cannot path to EssB without either Momentum or Isolated Prey, and both of them enforce a Fel Rush spam playstyle.
In AoE it might not be as much of an issue/DPS cost, but in Single Target, not Fel Rushing to generate fury, regardless of whether Momentum is taken or not, is a hefty DPS cost. In fact, you don’t Fel Rush for Momentum, you Fel Rush to generate Fury.
Havoc needs both Momentum and IP looked at, hopefully reworked/removed.
for raiding st, its probably a 2%-5% loss depending on gear, idk havent checked in awhile. you can suppliment felrush for felblade since your just doing casual content. legit doesnt matter
also define momentum, like just the talent or ubc, intitive, ect ect
Depends on the right and how well you keep it up. I say 3 to 6%?
It looks like the most popular spec for mythic sark and echo is playing without momentum
I’d wager because it’s just incredibly hard and annoying to play.
Sarkareth P3 is full of holes you have to dodge or you insta-die. Momentum makes it 70 times harder.

momentum make the fight a lot harder and is instant death. Same with the first boss in VP and also a few boss in mega dungeon

Probably 5-7% if I had to guess. I don’t take initiative, momentum, or UBC. We’ve been reclearing mythic for months now and there is zero need to minmax. It’s a degenerate, unfun, frustrating playstyle and I’m not going to use it unless it’s absolutely required.
I think most players benefit from not using it anyways; when you’re struggling with the mechanics of a fight momentum is just unnecessary complexity. So unless you’re really going for high rankings / upper HoF there’s no point in running momentum, and if you are then once you’re reclearing it’s pointless.
I wish they’d just delete that entire part of the talent tree. Initiative, UBC, and momentum have no place, aren’t fun, and only have a handful of extremely angry, loudmouthed enjoyers who really shouldn’t be appeased.

Every viable build uses Fel Rush and VR in some function so what really is a momentum build anyway.

Required momentum feels like when they made Breath of Sindragosa the only viable build for Frost DK back in the middle of Legion.

I was so happy when they removed the momentum mechanic from WW monks. It felt really bad needing to use mobility for dmg and hoping your target was against a wall so you could stay in melee range.
Funny they gave to DHs right after.
