Consoles and mobile devices have the tech to run massive multiplayer games. What’s stopping blizzard from allowing people to connect their Bluetooth keyboard/mouse into their 16g ram iPad and play some wow
It takes actual effort and good programming to do that. It’ll probably come in the future but right now it next to impossible with how messy and tailored the game code is. That needs fixing first.
The problem with those is how heavily wow’s UI is designed around being for a mouse and keyboard.
Also, wow is a larger program than the total storage capacity of most phones.
I think every console allows keyboard/mouse usage?
Not everyone has an iphone but most iphone 14s can have 500gb-1tb of space.
Trying to PvP with a controller would make me vomit.
I’m way too reliant on a mouse and improved camera controls for it to be feasible for myself.
Yeah i dont think wow should ever be designed around controller play. Although it can be done. Drainerx got 3kcr on holy paladin in solo shuffle playing with an xbox controller
Im just bringing up the option of letting console users plug in keyboard/mouse and play wow
Base model of iPhone 14 only has 128 GB, but that wouldn’t leave that much room for anything other than wow and iOS. But even going back 2 generations to iphone 12 (which are still pretty common phones) base storage is only 64 GB.
If they did bring wow to mobile, I see it being an M1 iPad exclusive (at least as far as the Apple ecosystem is concerned)
While it is possible to support WoW on consoles with today’s setup, even PS4/Xbox One would be doable but that would mean needing to help them being ABLE to support the use of abilities on gamepads. Of course its more or less official to use said Gamepads on PC with WoW but its a far cry from being able to compare when even a amateur setup of macros are involved.
IMO, it be a terrible situation to have a console go up against a PC who has largely flexible, customizable buttons at their disposal alongside macros that make a huge difference in how one would respond to anything. Even with the gamepad friendly features that both even help with Keyboard and Mouse, its still a major gap. Unless WoW goes down the road like ESO and FF14 does their controls, we ain’t really seeing WoW being as pleasant to do Cross Platform. And I cannot even imagine how abysmal it will be to do that on your phone, though tablets does sound possible but also a issue.
Much as I would be enjoying the idea of more players to get into certain games but some aren’t designed for them…
I’ve seen people play it on a steam deck.
Somehow.
Probably not very well.
Yeah i still think were a decade away from demanding triple A games being playable on mobile (even tho mobile devices like an ipad could handle it)
Console on the other hand is a different story.
Wouldn’t a console player with a keyboard/mouse be able to do the same?
Or maybe WoW should have its own console, like a steam deck but it should be called The WoW Box, and it should play all Blizzard games.
I know you can plug a keyboard into most consoles, but I’m not as sure if they include a mouse driver by default. Also, it’s not uncommon for consoles to have limited availability of USB ports (xbox S for example only has 1)
I know modern tech can probably run it. I’m not sure about all phones/ipads but the new M1 or M2 pros could probably handle the graphics and the space. They have keyboard and mouse support. So I think it is 100% do-able.
The issue is likely within how the game is designed/coded. It was never meant for those kinds of systems and would probably require a lot of work to accomplish.
I think it’s more likely that eventually Blizzard will create some kind of cloud gaming option, allowing people to play all of their games via cloud streaming–but possibly not until cloud gaming gets better. I don’t think it’s there yet. I played ESO on Stadia for a while and it was very iffy.
