Warriors are just the normies of Azeroth?
No special powers or magic or blessings or anything?
Edit; this is a troll post but it really inspired by my feeling of lack of class fantasy.
My warrior I’m leveling is so much fun and I’m loving it but it’s harder for me to get immersed into it. Is there good lore or material I can find on tinder warriors in wow?
my class fantasy is smashing people to pieces an being a pure physical class. also some of the best lore characters are warriors, broxigar the red, varian, garrosh, general blackhand from Wod, saurfang the younger and senior. The list goes on
Yes. That is the class fantasy: warriors aren’t chosen by gods or wielders of cosmic forces, we are badasses armed and armored to the teeth who succeed by our own skill, strength, and determination.
If you want lore, be more specific. The knights of Stormwind are a different warrior tradition than Orc blademasters, who are different from night elf sentinels, who are different from mountain kings, who are different from troll berzerkers, etc.
The Warrior class fantasy is that your RAGE is so powerful it becomes a magical effect that bends reality. You can wield enormous weapons in defiance of balance and momentum, the thrill of victory is enough to heal your wounds, and you can leap out of the sky and slam into the ground without injury. Can a common soldier do any of that? Heck no. Warriors are muscle wizards that use the powers of brawn and RAGE to run faster, leap further, hit harder, and bounce fireballs back in the face of annoying Mages.
Just because you don’t have fancy particle effects attached to your attacks doesn’t mean you don’t have any special powers. Paladins are overcompensating anyway, with their blinding light show. Warriors channel their RAGE through their weapons, and it’s a very direct and practical application of power. No debts, no bargains, no mucking about with delicate cosmic forces that twist your mind and taint your soul. Just you and your weapon against the world, and you’ll spit in the eye of anyone who says you don’t stand a chance.
Oddly enough, Warrior was one of the most immersive classes for me over its leveling experience. It’s only after competitive end-game builds stratify, limiting choice, that it seemed to muddy down or end up less vivid.
Admittedly though, Arms is in promise the aesthetic I’d love more than any other, yet it’s rarely even come close to seemingly capitalizing on its alleged theme.
The normies, no special powers was actually a bit of their thing back in the day.
While seeming like a right in the middle type of thing, its precisely what made them so powerful. They could equip and use literally any weapon in the game (except a wand.) They could equip any type of armor, and the good warriors absolutely did this.
Wearing plate, mail, and even the leather sets to max their power, and equally powerful (in the right setup) with swords, axes, even a fast-attacking dagger when needed.
You’re right, all other classes have evolved, Warriors still do the same attacks from vanilla, and only have Bleeds and Physical damage. Meanwhile our Counter part Rogues went from Bleeds, Poisons, and Physical damage to Arcane / Shadow Damage!
You cannot play an orc fury warrior and tell me that there’s no class fantasy there. I’m a fricken raging berserker swinging around two massive weapons. Probably the most satisfying dps spec I’ve played.
