What’s fun about FFXIV exactly?

Hate to burst your bubble, but WoW isn’t exactly setting records in the graphics department either.

The “artsy” style is part of what makes it work, since it lasts longer than “good graphics” which would feel dated after a couple years no matter how good they are at launch.

FFXIV is designed so that you can play other games alongside it. It doesn’t greedily suck up all of your time with repetitive grinding. There is some grind, yes, but it doesn’t demand hundreds of hours. It gives you the content in chunks, where you can enjoy it for awhile and then set the game aside and do something else for awhile.

This is healthy because you’re far less likely to burn out on the game entirely if you do other things between major patches.

Complains about content drought…

Doesn’t mention the year+ content droughts, plural, that WoW has had in the past, just before expansion releases.

OK…

I like the part where everyone who loves FF spends their time on the WoW forums.

We get it Felicia. You got a new BF.

Now if only you could get it.

Some of us like both games, but have to admit that there are lots of things that XIV does better. I don’t think very many of us are saying that WoW is entirely bad, or not playable, or ‘garbage’ or what-not…

But yet there are things we really wish Blizzard would notice and make better.

Or you should be concerned that so many people are exploring other options?

Meanwhile, 18 minutes later and I still don’t have a dungeon… despite the fact I have a quest for it.

I’ll never get this stupid skinning thing unlocked at this rate. This is like the 2nd or third time I’ve tried to get this quest done.

EDIT: Finally, 19 minutes and 30 seconds… with an average of 2min. That’s IF people actually click the stupid buttons.

It’s not “exploring other options”.

It’s look at me!! look at how happy I am without you!! can’t you see!!!

All these Square Enix shills. SMH.

Sounds like you need to quit playing this game.

shrug :man_shrugging:

Content Drought? Really? With all the different things you can do, from crafting, etc… like was mentioned above. The game and the different things you can constantly do, there is no real content drought in FF14. The game is just not based off of Raids and Mythic plus, like WOW has become.

I think FF14 does a great job and not spreading itself too thin.

It’s not a vast deep ocean, but it’s also not a shallow puddle either when it comes to content. It’s nearly perfect when it comes to thing you can do.

The only thing that keeps me from playing it is that I can only do one MMO at a time right now and me and my wife are playing WoW together at the moment.

It’s called having high standards.

I will be sincere, I tried it but I didn’t like the races or art style, I played it for about an hour, but I am 38yo, maybe I am too old for that anime theme, I remember when I was in my 20 I really liked anime and loved everything with anime style, I even left wow for some time to play Perfect World which was very anime like, so I understand if younger people find that art style attractive, that is the first step to like a game, after that you can play the game for hours and find other things you like about the game…what I really liked about the game is the weapon/class system, but I couldn’t stand the anime like style.

edit: I also remember doing some tourism and I liked the idea of having a house, if only wow would implement that, with all your trophies in that house and your friends or random people can come in, even your guild could gather at your house to have a good time, I just thought that was really nice, I visited some really nice houses.
The point is that wow is now more like a single player that allows you to join random people that don’t even talk to each other, they lost the mmo and the rpg gameplay and I think FF might have reinforced that and that’s why people stay because they have a big community with a lot of friends, but the art style is not for me.

in my opinion FF14 isn’t much different than wow in class progression, it pretty much bad till lvl 35, then you start getting into dungs and such things pick up and you start feeling the progression. But also you start finding the flow of the dungs and you start seeing how much you can push you speed, tank agro-hold abilities and healers ability to keep up and if your dps can burn down the mobs fast enough.

For me, it’s the fact that I have made some very good friends playing it over the last couple of months. These friends are all periodically logging in and between my FC and other more well-known Discord servers that bring the community together for group content, I’ve been enjoying myself. Whether that type of group content is Eureka, Savage Raiding, or simply just role playing.

it’s funny cause i’m starting see some things that wow doing now that FF14 has been doing for a while. High tier raid and dungs aren’t in party finder, Using tokens to by your next level gear. Random events that pop up on the map. But what I don’t get is Wow is restricting abilities due to UI space or there while be too many abilities. FF14 has console players and I have more abilities as a lvl 70 character than a lvl 120 character and that’s doesn’t include general abilities such a teleport, emotes, pets, mounts, sprinting and such. Wow is pc only, so the restriction doesn’t hold water for me.

I can get over graphics and combat ( I mean we’re playing WoW here…come on) What I love about FF14 is the amount of effort that went into it. At any point if I’m bored of running dungeons, raids, extremes or w/e, there’s a plethora of activities for me to do.

The Gold Saucer (an arcade that’s up 24/7 and not once a month), a pretty good in depth card game for me to play, chocobo racing, a sort of battle pet event and then all the arcade games. Or I may choose to go redecorate my house or apartment. I may feel like trying to find all the sightseeing spots where you try to find a certain spot in the world based on clues. Maybe I run treasure maps with a raid for lots of money.

My point is, is that FF14 does the raiding and PvP thing just as well as WoW does and then they go above and beyond outside of that.

That is fair enough. But you should at the very least check out the soundtrack for the game its pretty stellar.

I second this. Knights of the Twelve and the final Shinryu battle theme are great.
