What’s fun about FFXIV exactly?

I tried it, the graphics are mediocre at best. And the combat system doesn’t seem interesting. Weird thing I was level 4 and some how managed to kill a level 12 mob easily. So why people praise that game? I feel like WoW at its worst era is probably more polished

Lots of things. Fun is subjective.

Maybe FFXIV players ask the same thing about WOW?

Different games appeal to different people, I love FFXIV to bits but I accept there are those who don’t find the same amusement I do. Same with WoW, while some choices are questionable I still love this game.

You must have a bad system to say the graphics are bad. Turn up your settings and look again. Secondly the classes are well tuned, with real character progression. Give it beyond level four. Heck on any class that you can kite with. you can take higher level mobs, even in WOW. The crafting system is best out of any game. Housing, pve elements, actual choices, are all way beyond anything that wow offers after all the pruning and changes done to the game.

This post probably will be moved, but for me, it’s that

  • I can do everything on 1 character - all the roles and jobs.
  • My class has as many abilities at level 25 that my hunter does at 110, and when I reach max level, I read that it’ll be triple that or so.
  • My pets will never be changed into something that I would never have gotten in the first place. (RIP Karkin, my robot crab.)
  • The crafting professions/jobs are so much more complex and interesting. Just starting out, I’ve already made useful things for my other jobs.
  • There is an entire area called the Gold Saucer which lets me play games and have fun to get currency that I can use to buy mounts, emotes, hairstyles, music, and appearances. (And it’s not time gated to once a month for only a week at a time and only able to get currency once a day per toon!)
  • Holiday and anniversary clothes aren’t restricted to just 2 weeks a year. I am running around right now with head to toe Christmas stuff on as we speak, and after the next store sale, I’ll be riding a broom year 'round, too.
  • Their clothes look better, imo.
  • My character is beautiful and exactly how I wanted to make her - not changed into something that I don’t like and can’t customize much at all.
  • Haven’t done pvp yet - which I’ve heard isn’t great - but there are vendors, so I’ll be happy because I can set a goal and achieve it. I’ll be able to buy gear, mounts, pets/minions, emotes, hairstyles, and appearances from the vendors. (RIP pvp vendors in WoW.)
  • The content stays relevant much longer than in WoW, due to syncing. I’m getting rewards for doing lower level dungeons just as much as my current level.

There’s more, but I’m tired, so need to sleep in order to play FFXIV tomorrow. lol Have a nice night. (ETA that I forgot housing. I love checking out other people’s homes and thinking of having my own!)

FFIX has better graphics, and has lots of fun stuff like the golden saucer, chocobo racing, and their card game. I had lots of fun with all of those. I also think the quests quite fun to go through if you like final fantasy style storylines.

However, I didn’t like the combat as much, and the time gating is much worse than WoW believe it or not. I also didn’t like the universal cooldown on abilities.

That said, I do like being able to swap between classes on one character, and the profession systems are significantly better then WoWs. Leveling profession classes in that game have as much depth as their combat classes, and didn’t seem like secondary nonsense. Player owned housing was also a huge plus imo. (I only had an apartment though, as I didn’t get as far into it as I would have liked).

I really like the crafting in FFXIV. Every item is a minigame. Plus it’s got the Final Fantasy world that interests me. I love the game even though I never truly experienced max level content.

But my friends don’t play it so if I had to pick I’m going where there’s a chance I play with someone I know.

Personally I absolutely love the side stories with all the classes. Sort of makes you Feel like you’re a Paladin or a Black Mage ect ect.

FFXIV has far superior graphics than WoW. You need to check your graphics setting or probably it isn’t up to spec for FFXIV which is why its rendering on low settings for you.

Man, everything there is more like an MMORPG should be than BfA which is already turning into a time gated subscription based mobile game with soon to come micro transactions.

There is a lot I like about FF. Flashy spells, loads of Jobs /classes, lots of side content that’s actually quite fun, some great story quests, one character can be anything!

The two things that drive me batty is the long GCD and lack of diversity on skill rotations instead of a skill priority design. It feels like it was designed for controller players. This could just be me though since I main RDM and BLM

I played this a while back and liked it. Had to stop playing because then I could not afford it. Classes do seemed tuned and it was fun to play and it was challenging for me.

I didn’t mind the long GCD, everyone seems to have a problem with it but it really takes latency out of the equation when you’re playing on a poor connection.

And yeah I missed all the flashy cool stuff in my first reply. I truly think it’s superior but my friends like wow and I like Warcraft /FF and MMO games so I’m caught in the middle.

I don’t know. I got a character up to level 4 in wow and I can’t understand why anyone would like this game. You have maybe 2 skills to use, the quests are mostly crap, there’s no dungeons or anything. The gameplay is simply terrible and there’s nothing to do but kill random mobs for redundant quests. There isn’t even any professions in this game.

Getting up to level 4 really gives me a chance to really judge the game, so don’t try to tell me i’m wrong.

(Also, wow’s graphics are good for a 14 year old game, but that’s about it).

Level 4 in FFXIV… you have barely walked out into the front yard of the starting city and you are already being judgmental. almost seems like you are trying to find fault with it.

This is literally the most silly troll post I have ever read. Ackshually you have to get to at least level 14 to experience all that FFXIV has to offer, that’s why they call it Final Fantasy 14.

Graphics look way better than ours, but that of course is not the deciding factor for me if I play a game or not. To each their own?

If I play FF exclusively for awhile I tend to stop noticing it, and it feels more natural, but for awhile I was bouncing from WoW to FF and I could really feel the difference.

I’m the only one of my friends that still plays FF. I tend to float around on the side between BDO, BnS, FF, Tera with WoW being my mainstay.

Keep in mind the only thing in WoW keeping you from taking on mobs more than three levels higher than you is an arbitrary penalty tied directly to your level (i.e., not your stats) that kicks in at four and makes you start missing almost everything you do and take ridiculous crushing damage from everything. If you removed that, a level 4 in this game could pretty easily kill mobs a hell of a lot higher than 12.

Can’t speak for the gameplay, but if nothing else FFXIV pretty much obliterates this game on soundtrack. I play Record Keeper, and every time a XIV event happens the music is amazing. I can’t think of anything in WoW outside of promo videos and title screens that comes close to just FFXIV’s standard boss theme, much less the rest of it.
