Weren't proto- drakes supposed to be dumb?

I coulda swore the lore of the aspects depicted proto-drakes as being more akin to animals who acted on instinct and that them being uplifted into dragons granted them intelligence, so how come so many proto-dragons in this expac are anything but that? I mean shouldn’t Raszageth be dumb as bricks?

Yeahhhh I thought that was the case too. Maybe they retconned that. Can someone shed some light? lol

I thought the aspects took down Galakarond before they became aspects. They were talking and plotting to do that.

100% after they defeated Galakrond, Tyr and the other titan keepers bestowed them with more power/higher intelligence. Changing them from proto’s to what we now see. It’s been reconned again.

There’s arguments for and against proto-drake intelligence. The one’s in northrend certainly seemed dumb as a box of rocks.

In Dawn of the Aspects they were intelligent, but in varying degrees. I remember there was a part where a brown proto-drakes was smart enough to attack where the Shoveltusk was running to instead of where it was and that kind of blew Malygos’ mind. (been a long time since I read it)

So what we have is
-They were always smartish, and the ones in modern Northrend are just particularly stupid.
(and again this is based on Dragons evolving in Northrend which is no longer the case)

This seems kind of lazy, but unless they release more information on it that’s all we’ve got except for calling it a retcon.

Yeah they did. They took him down lol. The aspects were somewhat smarter than the rest but they still took down Gala out of instinct and then the titans blessed them.

I thought I remember reading it was more than instinct.

I mean if that basic behavior was all it took to blow Malygos’s mind even though we now know he knew the primalists is kinda weird lol.

I’d argue that the Protos in Northrend are a different tier than those of Raszageth’s ilk. Even then Raszageth doesn’t exactly strike me as intelligent: ‘Brute force’ seems to be her go-to strategy to every problem she comes across. She just has the army and the power to support it.

A storm is hardly subtle, after all.

I mean the lore said that the 4 were smarter than the rest and that said intellect allowed them to team up and take out Galakrond together, which in turn impressed the titan keepers ( Tyr mostly) who then uplifted them into dragons, granting them higher intellect and stats in general.

Makes sense.

Aren’t the primordial drakes empowered by the elements? Maybe they elevated their intelligence, too. The run of the mill proto drake isn’t very bright. The elemental ones seem to have higher reasoning.

They killed him with a rock and used social pack tactics.
Chimpanzees do that too.

Now this is an oversimplification of course, but it’s not like they constructed an elaborate deathtrap or anything.

If I was going to throw something at the wall here I’d say they were as smart as an Ogre in dustwallow marsh.
Speech? Yep
Deduction? Kind of
Math? nope

Smarter than an animal but not as smart as an average human child.

I had a feeling the way Nozdormu described the other proto-dragons as less feeling and complex as them incredible suspect. Like intentionally throwing insult in there because they (as we know now) didn’t take the Titan’s power. The inflection had me curious for weeks.

Exactly lol, its them being uplifted into dragons that made them who they currently are which begs the question of how those that refused the gift are somehow able to be so eloquent, cunning, etc. Feels like a retcon to me.

The only explanation is some proto-drakes had higher potential and thus were more intelligent.

Seems like a reach to me, I dont see what being elementally infused has anything to do with increasing your intellect.

No more than titans empowering the aspects make them smarter. Intelligence makes for better servants. Plenty of intelligent elemental lords and their their minions.

So what’s happening here?

Are we having a Family Guy situation where new writers don’t give a fig what the old writers did or is it the same writer that forgot what they wrote?

Cause if Raszageth was Alex’s clutch mate… how is she talking?
