"We're stepping back from borrowed power systems"

Makes cyrce’s circlet which is still hard BiS for boomkins and a handful of other classes to this day. (Borrowed power)

New delve belt that just got giga buffs making it hard BiS for the forseeable future (Borrowed power)

Thought we were stepping away from these kinds of systems, but I guess that was just lip service

Every armor is borrowed power, friend.

The real borrowed power are the friends we made along the way.

There’s a massive difference between a single piece of gear (or an armor set) that’s BiS for nearly everyone for a season and spending an entire expansion (2 years) building up power that’s then stripped from your character. If you can’t comprehend the difference between the two, that’s a you problem.

Might just be me, but I don’t see the Circlet or Belt really as “borrowed power” so much as just being an alternative piece of gear that may or may not be your best choice for one slot

If we’re calling that borrowed power then so are legendary weapons like Fyr’alath when they come up

When a ring that was an addition at the end of the last tier is still hard BiS for a spec by a literal mile there’s a problem.
When the belt is now hard BiS across the board and is requiring people to engage with trash content because “if not then you don’t get the insane gains” there’s a problem.

without ring boomy loses a big chunk of dps.
without the belt people will be gapped by a considerably high amount of dps

These both qualify as borrowed power as once they’re taken away you are considerably weaker.

Already replaced by 681 ring by the vast majority of top performing boomies.

I don’t really see the belt or ring as big of a borrowed power as azerite armor was. They’re mostly just catch-up mechanics to help people end their season or boost some alts. The time investment isn’t nearly as painful as azerite armor was.

To add to your point I’m not needing the belt/ring to do 10s or content in general. If I really dislike them I can/could have ignored their existence from the start of the season without issue.

Borrowed power is natural in any sort of progression system… you will always find something better when the next expansion comes along… that is to be expected… and is perfectly fine.

the problem with borrowed power only occurs when it is done as a System. We have always had Borrowed Power in Items, Talents, & Spells… some more impactful than others… but when these items fade into the background, talents get replaced, or spells get removed, it happens in a way that feels natural, we don’t suddenly feel as if we have lost something the moment it is gone.

Systems on the otherhand create problems… WoD introduced the first borrowed power system with zone abilities. It was relatively minor, all thing’s considered, and didn’t leave much if anything feeling lost when we moved on from it. Legion on the otherhand went all in on Borrowed Power systems… Artifact Weapons & more Legendaries than the game had seen in all previous expansions combined… up until legion the greatest impact anyone ever saw on their playstyle came from Tier Sets… but in Legion we had Artifact powers that changed everything as well as a huge selection of Legendaries for each class that influenced how you played your class/spec. Not only did these systems influence playstyle they provided a massive boost to our strength as well. When they were removed in BfA, we instantly felt weaker… not only could we not do half the things we could before anymore, but it took longer to do anything too… the loss of the borrowed power system was felt in full. By the end of BfA, between Azerite traits & corruptions, we had another full blown Borrowd Power system on our hand that would be immediately felt the moment it was gone again, and we all knew it… sure enough, SL hits and we lost access to all our BfA powers, and everyone starts complaining. But, hey… SL gave us a whole new Borrowed Power system too… Covenants… and Conduits…surely Blizzard has learned their lesson by now and these won’t have such a massive influence on how we play that we just won’t feel the same again without them right? Right? Nope… it was so apparent just how impactful these were that the most notable ones got straight up added to their respective classes as permanent additions in the talent trees with DF.

Simple gear that is 100% optional and your never actually forced to get doesn’t hold a candle to Borrowed Power Systems… when Midnight hits and you get a new BiS ring, you won’t even miss the circlet at all… nor will you miss the belt or anything from TWW when we move forwards. Besides, it’s unlikely that they will just simply disable the effects of any TWW gear going forwards… they were all designed as if they were Trinkets… simple generic effects that can work with any skill set. You won’t be losing anything when Midnight hits, you’ll just replace it with something better.

Whislt this is true, it is also true to say that by repeatedly introducing small borrowed power systems in an expac, it nevertheless undercuts the “new leaf” position that blizz had supposedly taken about such things.

So whilst it’s no where near as bad as legion, BfA or SL, it’s still bad. We’re basically getting just the legion nether light crucible every so often now.

I don’t know why blizz can’t be satisfied with the just using tier sets as the original borrowed power that they are.

The borrowed power systems in Legion and BFA were awesome. The ring and belt are nothing like those. They’re just momentary BIS gear slots.

Why? Because it’s easily obtained? I’m just trying to understand why this particular item is bad?

I think some people just thrive on the never ending hunt for new gear. I get it. So when a particular item is introduced that effectively deletes an armour slot, some people get miffed.

Personally I don’t mind farming for 1 less armour slot. But I do like getting new stuff too.

I hated legions borrowed power systems. They were annoying and clunky IMO.

I didn’t mind bfa’s too much. But that was mostly because I didn’t care which azerite piece I got. Although the big debacle of azerite gear was that getting new pieces would initially make you weaker.

Don’t look up what tier gear or trinkets are.

I never had problems with borrowed power, to me it makes the game more interesting.

Comparing these to expansion long systems that required regular grinds to keep up with is a massive stretch.

Cyrce’s Circlet currently takes like an hour to get and then you never have to worry about it again. “Oh no I got a free BiS item for zero effort”

This is just desperation for a reason to arm-flail and outrage.

you trash. you dont spend every week upgrading them. it isnt a system. its 2 or 3 week “grind”. get out of here already. not to mention the legion and azerite days kept us busier than this interation of wow and world qusest/rep grinding.
